Don't know if anyone else feels this way, but it has certainly been a recurring thought for me personally.
Anyone know of plans to increase the variation in character appearance/builds cosmetically? While I do appreciate the "pre-battle" room with all participating in a match and the "mercenaries quarters", I can't help but notice there are usually 15-20 of the exact same models of my own character. I mean, with the exception of the four races and a light/med/heavy base model for plating I feel like my progress isn't
1. Noticeable/Distinguishable 2. Rewarded 3. Important
To me, as a player this kinda sucks because I would like to be in "awe" of veterans. Have a question about something a player was wearing and scramble to the internet to try and figure out a way to earn it for myself.
As a persistent instanced MMOFPS I think cosmetic variation + having different distinct items fosters a good environment to establish a need or desire to play for a long time.
Bron Canus is literally no different from any other character when there is not even an option to inspect a players dropsuit build or item/skill allocation. |

So a red grenade bandolier (the same as a tan bandolier on a level 1 character) is supposed to define someone whose level 5'd all their skilltrees?
I feel like that's barely scratching the surface of something that would ultimately help the game last the lofty 10 years expected.
I mean, a honda civic body type is still a civic, regardless of the paint-job.
There is nothing distinguishable about a characters level or gear-a fresh coat of strawberry-pink with lime shoulder plates...not adequate in my opinion.

So nobody else is bothered by an MMO not having any player differences visually from the first level until endgame?

I think the players face is important...but with a helmet being integral to survival (at least in a combat setting) I would forfeit customizing an arbitrary thing like my face, to gain something better. I'm saying armor pieces that scale with the suit and evolve perhaps. Or, take a note from Halo Reach.
I do get that we are clones and we are fighting a faceless war with corporations writhing in the stench of their wealth-but I need to be able to spend my isk/time/life achieving BOSS STATUS and separating myself amongst other mercenaries.

Oh kee kee. Even just the merc quarters and pre-battle area would be something that would have conversations started about some dude in a bright purple crazy futuristic drop suit with nano-tubing and cybernetic mods.
It's like...dudes...need more lore/culture/interest in what I'm playing.
Something like this would build a devoted fanbase, coming from someone whose currently hyped this to like all 4 of my friends. |
