Compared to the other horrible suggestions on these forums, jetpacks aren't that bad of an idea.

Jetpacks would be a good counter to the teams that can lock down the rooftops of buildings and prevent anyone from clearing them off. Assuming jetpacks have a reasonable flight time, speed, and cool-down rate, I don't see why they wouldn't be a viable option for the battlefield.

My favorite class in PS2 was the one that used the jetpacks (its name escapes me because I don't play that game anymore).

Provided it has a cap on fuel, requires fitting slots and would gimp the ability to field tank and/or damage mods, I don't see the harm.

That is a very reasonable and well-thought out argument against jetpacks. Thank you.

No jet packs are not a priority at all.

While it would be an interesting mechanic and addition to game play the game has to be redesigned around the existence of jet packs (at least the game already takes into account about flying)

Its on the wishlist (not road map) so if it ever comes to dust 514 its up to CCP.

That was the Light Assault I believe.

Or Planetside 2 (another Free to Play MMO FPS supported by Sony) or Mechwarrior Online or....

Telling someone to just go leave instead of entertaining their proposal is just a closed minded approach to the topic.

A while ago I posted an idea for a handheld item that would simply manipulate the physics engine to fling you towards the reticle, and I think it would solve a lot of the issues regarding jetpacks and fit in the existing system more easily. The original idea is here:
 https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=55686&find=unread

If someone from CPM could look over this and tell me what they think, I would really appreciate it. I'm not trying to spam, but it fell off the pages a few weeks ago and I never heard if any of the higher ups even saw it.

Thanks in advance for any input you might have

I am close minded because people will always complain so why would ccp feed the tears? Could you imagine a player flying landing above you killing you and taking off. Is that really what you guys need? Think about the consequences before you come up with a idea such as this.

Edit: also let me fly my heavy in right next to you mow you down take off. So this nerfing cycle can keep going around

But I want jetpacks... could definitely be balanced with limited flight time, and no weapon holding while in the air, equipment slot that takes a lot of PG/CPU. Could definitely be useful for getting to fallen teammates, scouting, or getting behind enemy lines.
Ideally I would prefer a short range warp equipment that teleports you about 100 meters in the direction you're aiming after charging, and it would have a cooldown, but a jetpack works as well.
I get that this isn't a priority at all, but I don't get why people are so quick to hate jetpacks without even seeing the ways it would benefit the game, or even that it can be balanced.

 Jetpacks, no.

 Enhanced Jump Modules, yes.
Lower amount of stamina used, increase height by up to 50% with Complex variants. Nothing too ridiculous, but a fun skill to possess and battle against.

I think people like the idea of getting up high and flying through the air, but they hate the idea of being attacked by floating enemies. As such, I think some sort of jumping, flinging, gliding, or warping would be a better way to go than true "flying".
