Splash damage is only working correctly for Grenades.
Splash does work every so often but a good way to test this is to take a Forge Gun Aim at your feet jump and then realese the charge, 8-10 times you will take 0 damage the other 2 you might take damage but it wont be what its supposed to be.
Another good way is to stand on some steps Aim at the step or two derictly down from where you are standing and 7-10 times you will take 0 damage the other 3 will not be actual splash damage as listed in the Weapons Info screen.
I have not done this exact testing on the other Splash weapons, but I know they are broke aswell.

This is probably tied to the same mechanic (broken?) that affects the Mass Drivers.
It has been documented by the Devs that the explosion is a 2D circle of effect. Which means jumping over a MD round can avoid the effects. I don't recall seeing anything stating that this has been modified of late.
When Gunning in a tank the small turrets don't have the splash radius or damage of the large blaster turrets. I have asked the driver to take out an infantry that is hiding as the turret I was using could do enough damage. The larger ones usually do the job in those situations. |

Well if that is indeed the case ( and does seem very plausible ) this needs to be fixed/changed.
Also something that supports your mentioning is I have found it much more reliable to hit the wall behind someone then it is the floor below them. Wich makes perfect sense of a 2D explosion. |

The devs never made this comment. They've actually said that splash damage, with the MD in particular, is applied spherically. I don't know if that is actually the case, but I believe something weird is going on with splash damage, Devs have commented that things like players, objects might be blocking splash damage more than they should. I believe this is most likely part of the problem with splash damage. There are probably lag/sync issues causing strange thins as well.
No matter what, we need some dev attention to the nuts and bolts of splash damage.

Another thing I have noticed is that the splash damage is listed in Meters yet I seldom see any splash damage actually hurt someone or something. Considering a 3.0m splash radius is over six feet I would say that anywhere near them should cause damage yet even at less than two feet it seems to not function. |

I run a tank with a large missile turret, and more often than not 2 cycled small turrets onboard, while I do love piloting the thing it is damn near impossible to get a kill without getting direct hits and with the way the large turret fires, it can be particularly difficult. Also with the small turrets they also have to aim for direct hits, whereas with the last build the usual game plan was to use the smalls for splash damage however that no longer applies. I'm dying for this to be fixed, while I can still manage to put up a fight my missiles are mainly for AV work this build.(besides gunnlogis, seems like missiles are the only thing right as far as explosive resistance on shielding goes.) |
