So not many of us have noticed this because we are investing (or not) in the specialized skill tree by investing huge SP pools all at once.
What I'm describing is a SERIOUS problem for people that won't be doing that but will run into a big ugly as they invest SP as they gain it ie as they would in normal playing.
The problem is essentially that the specialized proto dropsuits ie Minmatar Assault mk.0 have Minmatar Assault Level 5 requirements.
Why is this a problem?
The problem is that for a player that is using the Minmatar proto medium frame as they skill into Assault they are forced to either use standard or advanced suits to get ANY use of their SP.
Generally speaking the fitting to specialization bonus tradeoff really isn't enough to justify using the specialized frames until the proto assault.
The assault standard and advanced will be useful when someone wants to downsuit on occassion but forcing players to use these suits to get their bonus before 5 seems like a poor idea.
How to fix this?
Simply reduce the Minmatar Assault mk.0 requirement for Minmatar Assault 5 to 1 (etc.)
This way its a sidegrade from the Minmatar Medium mk.0 that gets better as you actually skill into Minmatar Assault.
Level 1 Assault you get your 5% bonuses, level 2 you get 10% etc.
The suit doesn't start OP it just gets appropriately stronger as you invest your SP.

Similar way of doing it, which might be more consistent with their normal way of doing it.
Dropsuit Command(x1) - Minmatar Medium Dropsuit Operation(x1) - Minmatar Assault Dropsuit Operation(x6) - Minmater Assault Dropsuit Proficiency(x10)
Roll up bonuses into proficiency and remove medium frame suits altogether.
This lets Logi's get into their suits much faster as well.
Then, make bonuses to the proficiency skill to actually make it worth the (x10) cost.
Medium Frame Dropsuits would just be an organizational node, you could use it to say... lvl 3 unlocks assault and logi suits, higher levels reserves for more specialized variants down the road... or something like that. |

Completely agree with you, I run a proto medium suit and am speccing into assault but it's not worth it in any way until proto, which i'm at least 1 million SP away from getting. Should just eliminate the medium suit altogether. Makes it too simple to get an easy proto suit which is almost on par with those people who have spent millions of skill points on their specific suit. |
