So I left a post about how will MCCs might work in the future earlier and someone brought up the Skirmish from the beginning days of the closed beta and it reminded me how much I loved it. I used to wait eagerly for the weekend to play Dust 514 even whne the bugs were countless and horrible lag.
Tge attacking side actually felt like attackers because you spawned at a well protected base with MCC over you. CRU (they used to look like trailers XD) where strategically placed. You had to destroy to relay uplinks before moving to the defenders base and capturing the null cannon. This style allowed for more strategic gameplay and fair advantages. In oreder for tge attackers to win the match the MCC had to dock over the defenders base and in order for the defenders to win you had to either destroy the MCC by preventing early destructions of the relay uplinks or depleting the attackers spawn tickets.
Of course part of that Skirmish changed when the next build was uploaded (I think it was called Codex) where the attackers had a completely open area to spawn (same as defenders) and todays Skirmish was implemented there. You no longer had to destroy certain objectives to move up to capture the NULL cannons. CCP just gave us 3 objectives to capture in the middle of the map and endless slaughter by the CreoDron Breach AR. Of course the attackers still had to capture the null cannons to prevent them from firing at the MCC and in order for the attackers to win the MCC had to dock at an unknown enemy base. The defenders had to destroy the MCC or deplet the attackers spawn tickets.
When the Precursor build arrived it added a very cool feature. Racial Merc Quarters. We no longer had to sit in the Caldari style Merc Quarters. But it also added tge Skirmish we all know and love (hate) today.
I think if you ask any of the closed beta vets that have been here since June of 2012 (including me) that which Skirmish is better they will say the "Old Skirmish" or Skirmish 1.0.
As of today I am still wandering why CCP took out this old concept of Skirmish. It was simply better.
Even if we all read on how PC will work I am afraid that it will be like any other Skirmish match (in terms of game mode) with a bigger spawn ticket count. And we all now how unbalanced this maps are. To me the concept and idea of Skirmish 1.0 seems better for PC than the Skirmish we have now.
Why CCP? Why did you replaced the old Skirmish with this new, bad, and unbalanced Skirmish mode? |

So we can rename it Infiltration mode later.
EDIT: I, too, remember calling in a tank, picking my tank out from the ever growing pile, and going into one of the two lanes present in the map. The relays weren't invincible, people up on the hills all the time (killing each other with dumbfired swarm launchers into each others feet)... Good times... Better times are coming though. |

I would come back to play Dust the second Skirmish 1.0 returns. But it must be crater lake.
Crater lake was where my love/hate relationship with Dust began.
