So today I learned a couple of years ago, after the Incarna expansion came out in Eve, players figured out how to hack that big screen that you see in your Merc Quarters to play things that they wanted it to. It ran off of a file type compressed with a .bik extension from RADTools.
I accidently ran into these files a few weeks ago, and then was reminded of them again to find our that people actually did this. ...Then CCP called it a 'feature'. I haven't seen any developers get behind it really besides giving some basic help tips.
Anyway, I was wondering if there would be a way that we could get .bik files into our MQs. I read on the RADTools site that BINK 2 works with the unreal engine...so that's what got me thinking... Unfortunately, I could see how Sony may not support this possibility as it could mess with the Teen rating due to some more ignoble uses, but I really think if there was a way to streamline the ability to loop in like 5-10 MB worth of new customized content from your corp, such as a visual MOTD, that would be pretty cool.
At the very least, having the possibility to have a tool on the Eve Gate site that could make some fairly snazzy short text/.gif based slides would be neat.
And it could go pretty far to develop more concrete social connections between players and give us something to do in our boring quarters. |

If I could sit on that couch, life would be great. Why have a couch if you can't kick it between matches?
edit: But really though PSA's from your CORP on the TV would be rad. |

You walk in closer and start to hear the voice of your dear leader with an emotionally charged voice compelling you to be sure to log on this weekend between 14:00 to 16:00 EST in order to be prepared to fight for your territory and that you will be rewarded handsomely! |
