As the title says, after updating to Uprising, I've noticed my PS3's been heating up and the fans are getting rather loud pretty fast, I used to be able to play Dust for long amounts of time and my PS3 would remain relatively quiet/ cool before, but now, seems the fans get noticeable loud just after a few matches.
I thought it was my PS3 or something, but its only while playing Dust that this happens. Heck, I decided to leave my PS3 on overnight running different games the last couple of days just to be sure, and by morning, the PS3 wasn't nearly as hot or loud as it gets when playing Dust for a short amount of time. (I left the games running on relatively active areas too, not paused or in some sort of menu.)
The PS3 is an early Slim model, its not on a warm area, I try to keep it at lower temps, lifted so it has some ventilation under it, in an open space, and sunlight doesn't hit it directly.
I know the Uprising "upgrade" requires more from the PS3, but still, pretty distracting and annoying to have the PS3 "yell" at you while you're playing.
(Yet again, maybe most just don't care/ mind it?) |

Give it some time before it effects every game you play; Mine does the same thing. Just keep doing what you're doing and it should be fine. |

Have you cleaned the ventilation grills? A can of compressed air is ideal, but running a vacuum cleaner hose over your vents will do in a pinch.
If they're caked in dust, air wont be flowing properly through your PS3 and it wont be able to cool itself properly.
Likewise, keep it off the carpet and away from anything else that might be restricting airflow (eg don't put it in closed cabinet/etc). |

Step one: clean the vents.
Step two: elevate the console with small blocks so that air call circulate beneath it.
The shelf has a tendency to absorb the heat and reflect it back into the console. That and Sony has cheapened a bit on the thermal paste for the processor for newer models. |

I do clean it often, tho I wasn't aware it was good to keep in on the carpet, as static and dust may be more of a problem than the heat itself, or so I thought/ was told.

Done and done, as mention, I do keep it elevated, and do clean it often.
As I said, this wasn't a problem whatsoever before Uprising, and still is not a problem at all with any other game I play, be it a Physical copy or Digital, only when playing Dust and only after Uprising arrived is when this happens.
May have exaggerated with the "yelling" thing, I mean its pretty loud in contrast to normal, but not THAT loud. Usually, its about as loud as a laptop with a cooling mat, but when this happens the sound definitely overtakes any other nearby sound, which is why I've been noticing it.
If I had to rank the different fan "speeds"/ volume levels to make it easier to understand, I'd say:
0 - When the console turns on, almost no noticeable sound whatsoever. 1 - When the console's been on for a while, no game or anything. 2 - When a game starts, its usually at about this level for a while. 3 - When a game (including Dust pre-Uprising.) has been running for a good while it usually gets to and stays at this speed. (for me) 4 - When I start playing Dust (post uprising.) it goes louder but still nothing too noticeable around normal levels, sounds sort of like a cooling mat on high at this point, maybe a tad louder/ faster. 5 - After playing Dust (Post Uprising.) for a while, can clearly hear the speed-up, it has a somewhat higher pitch than the usual, a lot noisier than faster, kinda like when a computer decides to really speed up its fans before slowing down again, except it stays that way for the PS3.
Sorry, that's the best I can explain it atm, hopefully that doesn't make it more confusing. |
