I am regularly perturbed by the way in which any idiot can hop into the driver seat of my vehicles and drive off. Often, when using my HAV, I will move to the light blaster situated on my turret to kill off any enemy stragglers, as my large railgun is sometimes unwieldly against fast, moving infantry. While doing this, an ally will often hop into the driver's seat and drive off, head long into the enemy base, and either get my vehicle blown up, or simply bail inside enemy territory. Add to that, when I retreat and begin repairs on my tank, players will jump into the vehicle and drive off .
What I'm suggesting, is for all vehicles to be flagged as owned by the player who called it onto the battelfied. A non-owner cannot ever move into the driver seat of the vehicle, preventing people from jumping into the driver seat and "stealing" another player's vehicle. If possible, allow the owner to un-flag any vehicle by holding down the Triangle on the DS3 (and something else on K&M). Unflagging a vehicle would allow any player on your team to then take over the driver's seat, in addition to the other available slots.
I realize the need for sharing vehicles, and often do so myself, when possible. Not withstanding that, it is hard to manage my HAV when a random can simply enter the driver's seat and take off without my permission. |

I would say that the vehicle owner should get priority 1 over the passengers for slot layout, so if you wanted to be a gunner you could swap your seat with someone else, but that someone else couldn't swap with you.
Owner gets priority 1, passengers all get priority 2. If Priority 1 wants into a slot occupied by a priority 2, he gives up his seat, you take his, and he takes the one you left vacant. |

That is an acceptable middle ground, that wouldn't take as much programming as my suggestion. But it still doesn't solve the issue of player who wants to fight you for the driver seat while you try to stand outside and repair your vehicle. |
