The most deadly thing to DS AS and logi ships in dust is the forge gun. There has been alot of talk about 'nerfing' the forge gun to make it less powerful against dropships though i think this is the wrong direction. Forge guns are meant to be anti vehicle weapons. I propose that dropships get an early warning system that informs the pilot when there is swarm lock on and Rail charges in the area. Its really hard for me as a pilot to spot the little twinkle of the forge gun round whilst its charging, and as i am either flying around or supporting my squad i cant be looking everywhere at once. Forge guns for me are almost impossible to spot, and if i go looking for them im almost certainly dead. Yesterday i actually managed to find a forge gunner that was hitting me and engage him, i almost killed him too. However i believe he was using a standard forge gun, as i only lost half my shields instead of 2/3, if this was an assault FG i would have been dead on first contact.
Here is how i envision this working, When being locked by swarms a little cross hair circle comes up above my vehicle mods it blinks yellow when im being locked and turns red when they have a lock. When a FG starts to charge in its Optimal range there should be a little red triangle above my mods with a lighting bolt and EVADE in orange letters under my aiming apparatus.
I feel this is a way to increase the longevity of dropships as pilots will be able to better understand the threats in their area and respond in turn.
im sorry if this has already been posted but i have arrived at the same conclusion and this is something that will help make dropships a little more viable for pilots. discuss! |

this is GOLD. +1 for good workarounds without offering nerfs.

I'm actually fine with this provided it doesn't give away too much about where the attack is coming from. Something like the damage indicator (in yellow?) would be fine.
It's balanced in that the pilot can easily overreact. Knowing that you're about to get shot at does not mean that you will dodge it. Even if you do, you might have gimped your combat effectiveness.
It allows AV to play deterrent as much as pew-pew. I'm all about deterrence. |

It has been confirmed that they are discussing this. I do recommend you join our dropship pilot focus group, 514th Wing, to talk about these features and others. You can read more about it here, https://docs.google.com/a/havokcore.com/document/d/1igsSZOT0Zaf8TXDhFZWHkQ5r0MTzgxNXwOfdtu56MaU This group is independent of anything in dust.
