While I love the fact that there are no levels in this game and we can fight anyone from noob to experienced in any battle, there are some serious balance issues as a result. Sure anyone paying for and having the skills to use a proto suit should be more powerful, these suits allow for some really gross situations with curtains weapons. Especially today with plasma cannons goin live. Players using mass drivers/ plasma canons and any other splash weapon at point blank range is stupid. Relying on the fact that u got a proto suit and most others don't to use these weapons at point blank range causes major "role play" issues, would a merc that sacs himself or his team actually get hired again after doing it enough times? Sure it's an fps and u can do it but should it be allowed because there is a mechanic for it?
Fortunately I see several solutions that neither reduce the power of the player or the weapon in question.... Just a fix
Fix 1: make the weapon have two splash radii one for enemies and one for friendlies. Friendly radius much bigger than hostile radius, problem solved u can't shoot another player point blank without ensuring u actually hit urself too
Fix 2: (and this is the one i like most). A minimum distance to fire these weapons, ie a game mechanic that prevents the gun from firing if aimed at a location to close to the user. Similar to the swarm launchers not firing unless locked on
Again I like the fact that 50mil sp peeps fight 2mil sp peeps, but give the noobs a chance these weapons do huge amounts of damage and they don't even have to hit you, and quite frankly a player goin 37 / 0 in a quick match with everyone shooting at u and u just 1 shot anyone that even blinks ur way shows serious balance issues |

I find your argument, through personal experienced, to be more or less invalid. Earlier today I, in my Valor (Gallente Scout Type I), was able to kill an Amarr Heavy who had a Plasma Cannon and twice my eHP. With a Militia SMG. Plasma Cannons, at least, are fine, if not weak, at close range. |

Yeah, that's the short of it. |
