Im at a loss as to why the plasma launcher was created? Why does this thing only fire as far as an assault rifle and have an arch? I thought this was suppose to be a medium frame forge gun. If it keeps the arch fire it needs to be a side arm. Secondly it has no range. I dont see anyone specing into this weapon in its current state. |

Copying from a trip report I promised to post on a forum, ran tests on another character and account:

Close tight chokepoints where people bunch up? - It's like the splash only hits one, and if I hit someone dead on it deals splash instead of the full damage.
Regular infantry open combat? - Good luck hitting at range with that stupid arc it has, cannon my mule, better off going shotgun, it hits harder and the shotgun isn't going to hurt you with splash.
Anti-vehicle? - Faced off against one militia tank, one gunnlogi, and one of the shiny bulbous white expensive-as-hell tanks. Better off with militia AV grenades.
It's the only choice for anti-infantry more reliable than Forge combined with ever-so-weak AV but just don't bother. Some crazy scout will bunnyjump and become a god with it and claim it's overpowered I'm sure.
The kills I earned were dead on hits dealing splash. I'm also stupid and never recorded these four matches. |

Plasma Cannon needs a hell of a lot more damage considering the skill required for it's use.
Less damage than a Swarm Launcher
3x the CPU requirements of a Swarm Launcher
Less 'magazine' capacity than the Swarm Launcher
No lock-on
RIDICULOUSLY SLOW PROJECTILE SPEED
Tight splash damage effectively reducing Anti-Infantry capabilities to direct hits
Reload Time + Charge Time puts the damned thing in league with the Forge Gun
----- Which also has more magazine/damage and fires -in a straight line-
This weapon is -pointless-. It is a failure and needs a rework -now- considering that a Starter LAV can have as much as 2000 EHP.
The skill required to use this weapon is absolutely insane considering it can't even one-shot a -starter LAV- |

Agreed on all this, also animation covers projectile path so cant see if high or low on long shots, If cannon is to low : 45degrees you cannot shoot over an edge even when standing right on the edge, the shot glow in front of you. |

I had high hopes to have a type of rocket launcher type weapon instead of the swarms. However the plasma cannon really doesn't do much to anything even the STARTER LAV's
Several problems I see and what would help
1. Projectile Speed Increase- trying to lead targets, even slow ones need absurd lead angle never mind having to arch up for the distance. Faster would make it easier to lead and drop wouldn't be large enough to have to aim for the clouds to cover distances
2.Better Sights- Of course, If you are going to add drop to a weapon, it would make since to have some type of range scale to determine how much you need to compensate. Mass Driver has a scale to calculate drop and the plasma cannon should have one too. Right now its really hard to see distant targets from lack of zoom and no scale for range so your constantly guessing how much you need to compensate. Given, with practice i see potential but far from being an "easy to use weapon", no one is going to invest into a weapon your constantly guessing where to shoot.
3. Direct Damage Increase I hit several LAV's and i was never really able to destroy them with a properly placed hit. (I got killed when i shot Cannon round straight at one when he was trying to ram me.....All i did was damage/destroy shields and here he comes rolling over me like noob steam rollers do. Comparing to swarms, swarms do more damage, lock-on feature, and you have at least 2-4 shots per-clip....no contest on what AV weapon to use here.
4. The only thing i see that is fine right now is the splash damage and radius. I can easily see someone attempting to noob tube this weapon and the 1 shot per reload and splash damage amount is fair across all tiers to me. I did luckily kill a scout but a couple Damage Mods and this weapon could get out of control but it would have it's limits and niche role |
