Hello My friends at CCP I have many suggestions that may help improve game-play for those of us interested in piloting ships within this beautiful game we call Dust 514.
One of the major concerns that I have with the current dropships is that they are extremely combat ineffective. I am one of those guys who loves to fly in low and fast in games like arma with a small squad of elite warriors determined to bring violence of action and swift justice to the enemy, but unfortunately this is very difficult to say the least in Dust 514.
Our on board weapons cant hurt a fly, and our deference are weak if not nonexistent against threats like forge guns and swarms.
Lets start with the forge gun they cycle way to quick that's my only complaint. Swarm launchers well they Lock way to quick and we cant tell and that's my only complaint
The on board weapons on a dropship Lack the range and damage of these threats. Any of these threats can take out a drop ship in around two hits from extreme ranges yet a dropship gunner needs to take more then six at point black range to kill one enemy, this seems a bit skewed to me.

you want fighters and CCP is working on these and will add in gunships (read flying tanks)
The Dropship should maybe get a little more EHP but should never be OMGSKYDEMON!>!?!?! |

Would you like to see a picture of a real life infantry unit?
It can cannot sustain more than one or two rounds of enemy fire without immediate incapacitation or death. It is obviously NOT suited for ground combat. Take your merc and read a book in the MCC because as the infantry counterpart it should fall over dead as soon as it gets hit with one or two rounds. |

All military transport aircraft have defensive capabilities, The fact that in this game you can shoot someone from a dropship with a rocket at point blank range and have no effect is an example of a skewed damage system.
Like I said before if it takes one to two hits to take out a drop ship that should be about the same damage that should be dealt with a drop ship rocket especially when you consider that gunners are shooting from a moving shooting platform.
For example look at the tactical assault rifles? You think that is not broken? |

Agreed! same thing should be said for infantry don't you think? if you read closely to my previous post maybe you might able to decipher that same message. |

The tac ar is a terrible weapon and should be removed from the game... the gallente do not use rail guns they blaster the **** out of things.
And I run scout on occason what is this nonsense about taking more than two shots?

Stand in front of a drop ship and let it shoot at you while moving the darn thing can place missiles right at you and you wont die most of the time. Tthen get into a dropship and let a swarm or Fgun hit you once.

It's still mostly a direct hit weapon which makes it fine for AV but pretty crappy for AP. you can sort of make it work, but it isn't worth the time or energy. |

i feel it wouldnt be a problem at all if blast radius worked right but atm its just a horizontal circle on the ground instead of a proper sphere |

They work real well on AAA and Rail cannons. |

I just felt the need to chime in a little here. I have been gunning for a friend, who has been flying a grimses. I must say that I do not know what you are referring to, because we have been wreaking havoc the past couple rounds. In the past few games alone I have taken out multiple tanks (most of them Militia, but a couple Madrugers) as well as a few dropships, again mostly militia variants. I have also been able to successfully take out all sorts of infantry, from scouts to prototype heavies, and can usually place my rounds directly on target with ease. When gunning I usually go 10-0, unless we explode. We are using prototype accelerated missile launchers, and I have put some skills into Turret Operation. We have lost a few of our own dropships in these games, but I feel they are far from ineffective, and if they are in the right hands are devastating killing machines.
Anyway, that has just been my experience. Your results may vary. |

As it is infantry is small hard to hit and I usually get 3 or 4 of them with forge guns or swarms that litterally are point and shoot weopons with how easy it is to get kills with them. Swarms never miss and forge only needs 1 shot to rip off your ehp. |

Drop ships wreck tanks, but can't kill infantry at all. We need a new kind of infantry specific turret that only drop ships can equip. High rate of fire, 100m effective range, and a 5m blast radius, but low DMG. |

True, but after one hit they can easily just maneuver away rather easily. I've seen 2 people keep firing almost non-stop at a Dropship, while the Dropship simply moved around evading pretty much all shots and flew away from their range, then came back a bit later without a dent. That's when the ship had basically 0 cover, when they have a spot to hide behind, they usually just fly there at the 1st sign of trouble..
They may not be able to take punishment, but they can easily evade swarm launchers, especially after they nerfed the Swarm missiles' homing capabilities.
If anything I'd say that at least vs swarm launchers, they're pretty balanced right now, a pilot can still be taken down if not careful, but can evade and fly out of danger too if paying attention to where they're being shot from, and if they have good shooters, they can also take out the player(s) with the launcher before they take the dropship down.
Tho I'm guessing as others have said, the Dropship isn't meant to be mainly a "combat" vehicle either, but as the name suggest, a dropship, you pick up people, and drop them off where needed, while its turrets probably being more of a defensive measure rather than an offensive one.
They'll probably be releasing other ships later on along with the MAVs and such that are meant to be more combat-oriented. |

I am not sure, to be honest. He has a little over 7000 armor HP, and uses the increased height ceiling to get out of range of any serious threats. However, as I said, we still lose them, but they are not completely useless. Whenever he hovers still for me to attack, he usually tries to hide behind a tower or hill or something similar. I suspect that we just haven't gone against any really good AV players yet. When we have died recently, it usually takes both a forge gun and swarm launcher in quick succession.
I am not saying there are not some improvements that can be made. Quite the opposite actually, there is a lot of work that needs to be done. I just wanted to share my experience, and the success we have had using them.
