I looked but saw no topics of discussion on the issues with swarm launchers. Each round is technically 4 to 5 missiles, yet free fire is not an option. This is a definite issue when spawning in with enemies around you or nearby. You spawn in and immediately have a swarm launcher and must switch to your sidearm, because your swarm launcher, for all intents and purposes is useless against ground troops. As I stated before, each round is a volley of 4 or 5 missiles. If there was an option to switch between free fire and lock-on mode, then you could actually fight back immediately upon spawn in, instead of being immediately killed without ever having the opportunity to return fire. I think the easiest way to make this change workable in Dust, is to have R1 set to free fire with a tap of the button, and alternately holding R1 to initiate lock-on mode firing mode. You could expend volley missiles from each round in free fire, and use the remaining missiles in the volley in a lock-on kill. I think this would be an awesome and satisfying option for those who choose a dropsuit outfitted with a swarm launcher. Not being able to go on the defensive at close range with a rocket launcher is a disadvantage. If that little rocket launcher can carry four rounds consisting of 5 missiles, that being 20 missiles loaded up at one time, then surely it can fire those 20 missiles one at a time, right? |

It seems like you understand this is an anti-vehicle weapon, but then you sidetrack into "freefire" for immediate assault of ground troops on spawn in. This is not viable nor an intended use of the weapon.
Spawn mechanics allow cloaking when you come into battle. Double tap R2 for your sidearm and be on your way, Private! |

First, see that large button between shift and backspace? Use it.
Second, that's the way it worked sometime pre chromosome and it was horribly abused. |

Swarms do large splash damage, so close quarters would not be a good place to use it.
Secondly, each missile does 300 damage, so you'd be killing pretty much everyone in several meter radii in 2 shots even if you are firing single missiles - that would be horribly overpowered.
That said, secondary fire modes are something CCP have been looking at - the mortar mode for the mass driver was specifically mentioned a while back. I might start a thread for this actually... |
