Its been a while since I had a new character, so I dont remember how much bonus SP you start out with, but in order to boost rookies a bit, perhaps allow rookies to gain bonus SP up until 1-2 mill before they start capping?
That way, those who want to dedicate themselves and get up into their role, can achieve that faster, and not feel hindered at early stages. |

That would help the gap new players face trying to become even partially competitive.
I say ANYTHING that will help new players stay around longer is a good idea. |

I think the cap is a good thing which is decreases the chanse to be too addictid. I think they shoud earn more SP before they hit 2 mill. |

I've always been in full support of a SP multiplier for new players. Something like x3 SP for the first 2 million SP earned, it would allow new players to get into a decent set of gear and skills in a short period of time and help alleviate frustration of being a new player.
Also may not be a bad idea to give people one free SP reset once they reach that threshold in order to correct the mistakes they will have surely made by that point. |

Like with Attribute resets once a year in EVE, DUST 514 should have 1 SP reset a year, and start out with one. |

I like the multiplyer idea, but I was also thinking maybe maybe make it so the weekly SP cap only takes effect after so much SP is acuired?
So new players could catch up faster but there would still be a cap to keep people from progressing to fast. |

The best suggestion I have ever seen for dealing with this is having a total cap.
If the cap is 190,400 a week, then that means that in a year that the total points someone could have gotten from Active Sources is 9,900,800. So it works like this:
Person A started on opening day. They have played, and capped, every week they have been around. This means in the 35 weeks, they have accumulated 6,664,000 SP from Active. Their Passive does not change. Person B starts 35 weeks after Person A. They do not suffer an Active SP cap until they reach 6,664,000 from Active Sources. Every week, the cap increases by 190,400. Given enough time, Person B could catch up with Person A for the Active Gain but will likely always be behind because of Passive SP and Person A's free SP once capped.
Advantages: 1. Person B can eventually catch up and not be too far behind Person A. 2. Person A still gets to say that they have more SP than Person B because they started Passive sooner. 3. Decide not to play a week? You don't lose out.
Problems: 1. Active Boosters become a "either use them from the start or not at all" kind of thing. The Booster would still give you more but only 50% until you are capped, similarly to how it works now. 2. To someone who starts a year or two after game launch, it means that so much grinding is needed to catch up with everyone else that it becomes hard. Whereas you would be REALLY SUPER behind the guy starting a year ago and only kinda behind the guy that started 6 months ago, you might end up being REALLY SUPER behind with both.
Be well. |
