I believe this can be done in a way that appeals to both free players and paying players.
In Eve pirate factions require two racial skills trained to fly them. In Dust, it would make sense for this to hold true, but I would also introduce "pirate racial" skills as AUR only books.
Let's take the example of the Gurista Assault. If we follow EVE, you'd have to train up Caldari and Gallente racial skills. With the proposed "Gurista" skill book, you can train up exactly what you want, without the fat, saving you a pile of SP. But Gurista skills don't help you wear Caldari suits and Gallente suits at all. It is a shortcut in the sense that you are skipping training racial suits you weren't interested in, but it is also balanced in that you skipped those racial suits you weren't interested in . Without buying these AUR books, yes you have to spend more SP to get pirate suits, but you also get the two empire suits; even if you didn't want them, they are still options you now posses that the pirate does not with his lesser sp investment.
What does the community think about such items? I believe this is a win-win, especially after player trading finally arrives. I think such 1 time but limited utility purchases should be in the $1 - $3 range. What would you suggest? |

I dont think I understand what you're saying here... 6000 aurum so you can have both Gallente and Caldari proto suits without devoting the 10 million SP required to get both?
Sounds a little imba if thats the case.. I guess you wouldn't get the racials though... so 6000 aurum to bypass 4 million SP to get proto basic frame gallente and caldari..?
SP is $$ for CCP though, so you would need to price this around $80 or so I would think. I would have to see what the conversion for $ into SP is with 30 day boosters. |

I will clarify.
Gurista assault dropsuit- requires [Caldari Assault AND Gallente Assault] OR [Gurista Assault (aur only)]
The gurista assault skill book would grant you no other benefits then wearing the pirate suits. The non-aur method for wearing them is a perk for training two racials. |

Have you looked in the store lately? With aur versions of EVERYTHING, even first level stuff, I'm going to have to call bullshit on that. It is extremely obvious that ccp wants people to spend **** tons on aur, and make it into a massive deal. |

I see this as a major problem. They seem to be "okay" with leaving the ISK market and SP progression unbalanced and I am not okay with that. Furthermore it is downright confusing, messy, and ridiculously too complicated. Since I want them to remove "bad AUR schemes" I feel obligated to offer "good" ones to compensate. What do you think of this particular suggestion? |

Actually, this idea is quite well thought out. I feel like the advantage of being able to circumvent several level of racial skills to get into pirate gear is reasonable and balanced. If done though the pirate skill books should have a high enough training modifier to make the skill cost 1.5x more than a standard racial varient. this would slight red of uce the benefit of the skill but still make it worth it to players who want pirate gear without getting skills in two racial variants.
Another advantage of this skill would be giving newer players access to high level gear more quickly, which is currently one of the benefits of AUR gear. This would reduce power differential caused by pirate gear across the board since newer players could have it too. |

I don't think the 1.5x multiplier is necessary at all. Currently pirate suits are 2X skills, while each racial constituent is 1X. By adding the third book, someone who wants all but trained the pirate only skill ends up paying 3X, or more than the free player. I was actually worried people would think they were the ones getting the raw deal. |

In eve the factik. Ships requires the skills from both. Allowing someone to train up and get both races bonuses without actually training he falls under p2w. Becuase you have to decide how much you want to skill up for those bonuses.
Letting someone train a second cheaper skill for cash is bad.
Also faction ships are better than there non faction siblings. So I have to say nay.

You misunderstand, you don't train up both at all. You train up the pirate faction exclusively. If a player later trains both racial skills anyway, the pirate SP will in fact become redundant. |

This is an interesting idea, especially if you look at new-coming merc packs.
If someone gets all four of racial BPO variants (if they are like present vanity suits, and unlike Dragonfly), some people would have incentive to spend additional RL money for the pirate skill to unlock the BPO suits... |

Edit: Cleanup This is suggestion adding a new "pirate racial" skill path, that costs AUR for the books, that serves as an alternative qualification to using pirate gear. You can still gain access through training two empire skills up. Training the pirate skill does not give you ability in empire gear.
When I saw the thread title I was all set to jump in here with a resounding no. However you make some interesting points, the values would have to be watched pretty carefully to maintain their utility in line with other/current AUR offers and general game balance but that's all tweaking specific values. As one example a book which would save the user more SP than an Omega Booster gives them in extra passive SP would need to cost more AUR than the Omega Booster (and honestly might be a bit too extreme for balance) but all in all I'm not opposed to the concept in general.
So, as someone who's unlikely to use these books myself, I give this a qualified +1. Nicely put together proposal.

EDIT: One other note, I'd lean towards not seeding such books (even assuming their respective pirate suits were in game) until the player/secondary market goes live so that at least some of the new books would be for sale to ISK only players... albeit at what will likely be exorbitant prices ). |

No thanks. I'd rather they just remove aurum altogether and increase anything that is currently aurum with a high isk cost. Leaving the only thing to be purchased with aurum, isk. |
