First off, I am very impressed with what I've seen so far! Having just discovered what the EVE universe was several weeks ago, I have since been totally blown away by the work you guys are continually creating!
Having been a gamer since the early 90's, I have always loved games that allow you to create, from the first SimCity game, to the Warcraft/Starcraft level editors, Spore, Kerbal Space Program etc... Currently I am working with a team called Tamriel Rebuilt, a modding community working to recreate a very large portion Bethesda's Elder Scrolls game world. I have also submitted a Halo 4 custom map to 343 industries for use in their online matchmaking lobbies. So I can speak with experience when I say what an absolutely incredible job has been done so far, and what still has yet to be done!
Having played the **** out of beta for the last several weeks, and watching the Dust Keynote speech, there are several things I would love to see happen in the future.
1.) Greater non-combat interaction for mercenaries. Whether this is owning a small area on a conquered world, or living on a space station etc. Part of the Keynote speech I watched online spoke about thebelievability of the universe. If a player's only option is to play endless battles over and over, I don't feel that shows all this game has to offer. I imagine there would be much work to do on conquered worlds, perhaps DUST players would have the option of using a construction or terraforming skill to build up infrastructure on a planet? This would make planet battles so much more interesting if certain planets were "home" to people.
2.) Further destructible environments. Take a page out of Battlefield's playbook, and make environments fully destructible. From buildings being destroyed, terrain being cratered, even having the option to completely glass a planet! So much more immersion would created between eve and dust if this were the case. This would also create alot of work for those potentially construction/infrastructure-management players. Also, Corps would have to think strategically about constructing bases on planets
3.) More unique planetary environments. It would be very cool if different planets all felt very unique and alien from each other. From visual differences such as foliage, crazy skies and weather patterns etc, but also things that effect gameplay. Maybe certain planets have insane blinding snow/sand/lightning-storms etc. Or wild creatures that will attack players? Or toxic environments(another justification for terraforming players) or a planet with twin suns causing an extremely bright sky.
4.) Sandbox construction for ships/buildings/vehicles. I think this could be applied to eve and dust. I would like to see a custom construction option for ships/vehicles/buildings etc... Somewhat in the likes of Spore, or Kerbil Space Program, where a player can shape and construct things from scratch, completely customizing the way they look. Just to give ships and such a more personal feel.
5.) One free Re-Spec for players. DUST seems to be an intimidating game, what with a massive skill tree and less focus on balance than similar shooters, and I would hate to see this scare away potential DUST players. I for one am very glad I already got to use one SP reset already. Having said that, players should get some sort of trial mode, where they figure out what type of character they want to play, and use a re-spec if necessary. Additional Re-Spec's could be bought for X amount of AUR.
All in all, this game has the potential to be a masterpiece! Looking forwa
