Starting to like and get accustomed to the new build. This is not necessarily a complaint thread as much as a light bulb moment for a large issue we are having.
I'm not sure how many of you here ever tried the console FPS shooter Brink. Awful execution of a game for the most part, but had the potential to be a groundbreaking release. However Splash Damage, the Devs, still had their groundbreaking moment in that release with their movement system known as SMART.
Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain.
This would have to be one of the most advanced movement systems ever come up with, and some other shooters took small leaves out of the concept. Basically, it is a class based movement system for Light, Medium and Heavy characters that put limitations for each class, but created an ability like parkour for light class that even produced wall jumping, while the medium could do lower level acrobatics like quick vault, climbing lower walls and sliding and the Heavy was limited to step vaults and short slides.
The movement system is what made Brink playable for me. I miss the abilities you had as a soldier that YOU customised and would do everything you could to outmanoeuvre your opponent, while still dealing damage. I've never had as good a PvP experience than fighting this way.
BF3 had a taste of this with the vaulting manoeuvres that made you feel like a fast moving soldier and never interrupted the experience, but was not classed based.
Dust 514 could be the best of this world of manoeuvring. I'd like to request that CCP Devs at least take a look at this system and see if it would be possible to integrate so we could TRULY feel like futuristic super soldiers and at the same time provide us a solution to overcoming the "sticky" terrain issues we have been facing in Uprising.
I for one cannot think of a more awesome experience than having SMART in Dust 514! |

Did you get to play Brink? It worked seamlessly on that. It was just the linear map design and poor post release support that let the game down. |

The reason brink failed was that it was a average game with a good gimmick and made by a small company. |

No doubt it was a long shot, but it would be nice if CCP could even give it some thought.
Admittedly, giving a Scout more manoeuvrability sounds scary, but that also goes for the other classes. And in the end, backflips are not what I'm talking about. More movement over hills and obstacles is what the SMART system was designed for. |

Well i am sick of getting stuck on small rock and top stares i think it is the maps themselves that are the problem not the movement system. |

Yeah, it may not be just a FIX for the terrain issues, but in BF3 any rock or step can be contended with with their vault system. However, BF3 is not classed based so I couldn't make the suggestion for that since a Heavy should not be able to rock hop like a Medium or Light. But a tweak on the SMART system (no wall jumps) could be a real possibility for Dust, especially utilising the jump button as a SMART button instead. |
