I played Brink, one of the best FPS games I've ever played, also one of the biggest flops I can think of. I could play a 16 player game on that and guess who half the human players would be and half of the bots the game would need to fill in with, before I even clicked to start a game. very small community, compared to this.
This game is very very far from that point. The forum will have you think the games in shambles here, but 99.9% of those posting are playing, an still actually enjoying themselves even with bugs/over nerfs. What thoise on the forums are doing is one of 3 things. 1. Posting bugs, problems and feedback, answering posts with logical and thought out answers, that is actually very useful to CCP, and though they haven't got to fixing things yet, you can bet your ass they are looking into stuff, they don't want this to fail. 2. Creating multiple posts, with no new information, just a duplicated post, slung in their opinion, which has flooded the first page a curious or new player will see. 3. Posting endtime prophesies that are mostly over reactions, to smaller problems, even though they know they are either posting purely to be a ****, or posting because they think they above all will be followed and worshipped as a Vet who knows all, but really completely mised the BETA part of the word BETA.
I am not one to think we should be brushing stuff under the carpet, but I don't collect newspapers and stack them 8 foot high through out my house.. If that makes sense. You have managed to cluster **** the forums with a lot of duplicated posts. which offer nothing other than mess.
So the game.. I started playing 1 month and 18 days ago, so I got a brief look at "chromosome" and fromt the start for "uprising", I didn't join from day one due to the fact I have helped with dev work on pservers for random games and also tried various games in the BETA stages. It can be downright aggrivating, botched patches, OP items, overly nerfed items, complete overhauls once comfort had been found..list goes on. So I tried to avoid this one for as long as possible, without shooting myself in the foot.
New players:
Chromosome: I started during this stage so I can tell you what I experienced. Join ambush, get ****** up fast, respawn get ****** up, rinse and repeat a few times until you pull out a sniper and try help from where you aren't squishy, get sniped by someone with a cool a **** named sniper... Its probably one of the most brutal games to actually start up I ever tried. Skills, the most confusing and cluster ****** skill set-up I have ever seen, just when you think you understand it, you actually lost track and now know even less. Weapons, didn't matter what you chose, sharp shooter, sharpshooter sharpshooter all the way, or just be out ranged and shot to death before you could even see them. Matches were pure spam spam spam matches, lazer rifles were ridiculous, AR's almost godly, Ass balsters annoying as hell with 0 skill required.
Uprising: Arrives with improved skill menu, something that will benefit the game from here on out. (yes there are bug, misinformation etc, all of which can be fixed) Weapon "nerfs": (Only things I have either came up against or used) AR is so terrible that thats al I see being used...... worse argument basis ever. Shotguns, kinda suffered from range nerf, but in the right hands are still good. If anything, few more points of damage would be nice. Snipers: Still work fine but are hindered by game perfromance. HMG, distance they shoot is a joke, they should still hit at range just with heavy spread. Shout be a feared surpressor, not a beast that has to sneak into mobs. Mass Drivers are almost a joke now, bumped into 2 or 3, no issues. Lazers: for the most, I have only seen 2 or 3 shy lazer users...not good sign. So in reality, weapons in Uprising, have all taken a hit, other than AR, with still perfroms very well, just doesn't have its OP range. The SP sink: As bad as you all see this it does actually work and make sense. new users free/milita gear, with slow upgrades, they have to fight for their place, meaning they might actually realise they should stick by better players, group up and feed off assists, and a few kill steals. Bottom feeding. Mid range players(roughly where I am): Better understanding of the game, mid range proto, top line weapons, mid to top line modules/equip. Can put up a good fight, thrive in groups but at the end of the day, will get pawned by the Vets. Vets: Best understanding of game, gameplay, maps, tactics, with the best selection of items, They are the top tier and strongest forces on the field.
So what the "SP sink" is doing, is making the new people work for their beef, but making the endgoal, where the vets lie, further away, by setting a mid point for them to aim for at 1st. Not actually a bad method at all. Actually very fair to all involved.
Dust was never gunna be a pick up put down FPS, it's a game with time requirements.
Game performance: from eh to erh. Last build was ****, poor looks, poor a lot, but did run better than this build, other than the poor environment cutting, that led to silly deaths from failing to climb a pebble and other monstrosities. Thsi build(uprising) is suffering from some horrible system lag, more blue shields, crappy rending distances and weird choopy movement. This does need to be adressed by CCP.

So after all that babble, heres the actual point.
The state of the game a community isn't all that bad in actuallity, but we need to start accepting what is here(uprising) and work to help CCP detect and correct issues, whilst maintaining a more mature approach, show new players that we are taking this seriously, and it's worth spending time to get into the game, and into the corps that make this game. Stop the doomsday talks Stop the "they took ur juuubs" talk. Stop posting opinionated bugs
Start consolidated issues into the 1st post to state that issue, in turn making it easier for CCP to follow If you think you have a "solution", make sure that it isn't just designed to help YOU. Clean the forums up, so that new players don't just see the forums as the land of egos and babies. Which reflects on who the corps and competitions are.
Game like this will needs it community working with them, to help it grow.
Remember if you don't like Dust514, don't play it. If you want to play it, help it. |
