Hello everyone. When Uprising first finished downloading on my machine, I was very careful in spending my points. I had expected people to jump at the chance to go back to Prototype Suits and have a huge vacuum of other skills. I did not do this. I did spend quite a few of my points (about 6.7 million of my 8 million SP) specifically getting to Tanks and Assault Suit and the various necessary support skills. But I only did this after very careful calculation and planning.
I looked through the Tank stats and noticed that they were lowered quite a bit in the PG/CPU department. I then noticed that the skills for Vehicles had several support skills, including two that read as such:
Vehicle Core Upgrades: +1% to vehicle maximum PG and CPU per level Vehicle Engineering: 5% increase in vehicle maximum PG per level
Calculating the bonus PG I would get from level 5 Vehicle Engineering, I noticed that I could fit my Tank in the same way I had before. The catch, however, was that this time it was going to be much more expensive in the SP department by about a factor of two or three. Deciding to go through with it, I probably put upwards of 3 million+ into Tanks.
As I started to build the Tank I had planned, I noticed that the PG had barely changed at all. Reading on the forums, I discovered that there was a bug that was not calculating the bonus from VE. Not worrying too much, I set that aside and ran as my Assault Suit.
Then I saw this thread. It turns out that Vehicle Engineering does not do what it says and does something that is really not needed for current Tanks.
Extrapolating that, it means that I was essentially misinformed by the game and made a decision based off of complete misinformation. This is not a matter of me wasting my Skill Points by my own fault; I was literally lied to by the skill. As it stands, it is pretty much impossible to build the Tank I thought was possible. Again, by no fault of my own.
This is not a matter of "Darn, CCP changed how missiles worked with Explosion Radius and Explosion Velocity. I guess I will have to change up my PvP/PvE strategy" Or "Oh, I'm an idiot and bought Caldari Dropsuit when I meant Minmatar." This is literally "The Skill that read 'does X' instead 'does Y' and now I am stuck with something completely pointless."
I understand planning and research needs to be done before making a push into a specific set of skills but surely it shouldn't be required to contact Support to determine if I am throwing points into a blackhole...
I have seen many posts that state "we know this is bugged; we are fixing it" but I have not seen an exact specification by what is meant by "bugged" and "fixing." Is it a bug that it does not read "Reduced the CPU usage of powergird upgrade modules" instead of what it currently does? Is it a bug that it is not working but will work as currently written?
Be well.

CCP Blam! wrote:Hi all. I've been reading through and we appreciate your feedback.
You're right about the vehicle engineering skill. For the other posters, I'm assuming you mean the vehicle core upgrades skill?
The reason for lowering the overall bonus was to allow us to create a more varied difference in between our different vehicle roles within the same class. This will become more apparent in the future when we release even more roles with different slot layouts. We also want to make sure that new players have a fighting chance against more skill point rich players who can enjoy the benefit of compounding premium module bonuses in the same fitting. We'll be keeping a close eye on how this nets out in vehicle combat, and ensure that we still afford you the ability to create interesting and unique fits to compliment your combat experience.
Best regards, - CCP Blam!
From this I gather that means Vehicle Engineering is completely worthless and all the points I put into Tanks under the assumption (read: what the game told me) is more or less lost because I would never have put my points in there if the game had not been egregiously wrong. As it stands, I would never have put my points in there because what I had planned was simply impossible.
The fact that many players are in this predicament because of what the skill tooltip stated is frankly ludicrous. a¦á_a¦á |

I know. EVERY single post by CCP has been cryptic like that. I am mainly hoping for a response that isn't trying to deflect the question.
It annoys me because if that single skill had actually been written to say what it currently does, I wouldn't even have gone Tanks or at least not Armor.

Octavian Vetiver wrote:No, the tool tip isn't the issue. VE is supposed to do 5% per lvl. When they say they're fixing it that means once they do you'll be getting the 5% per lvl that the skill is supposed to do. See, there's a problem with that sentiment: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=765249#post765249
It is a post that reads:
Eurydice Itzhak wrote:My PG Expansion unit that should cost 15 cpu only costs me 11 cpu.
So I would like my SP refunded that I used to take Vehicle Engineering to 5.
Worthless skill.
Do any tanks even have CPU issues? I only ever run into PG problems.
So VE really seems like it isn't supposed to increase overall PG and only decrease the cost of PG increasing items. Like I said, CCP has not flat out stated "This is what we want it to do." They have only said "We understand there is a bug and we are setting things in motion to fix that bug." So is it a tooltip bug or is it a bug in that it is not doing what is listed? |
