I'm liking the update, and was so thrilled to be able to respec my skills and get the beloved prototype suit I've been dreaming of! However, halfway through upgrading my skills after the update, I realized, huh, this is getting pretty damn costly! I'd already gone through 2,000,000 SP only to be able to get the advanced assault suit, which I don't remember being so pricey. Anywho, I realized I'd be way better off with one of the basic frames, since I don't care for role-specific bonuses and ~3,500,000 SP just for proto suit all together!! That's about 4/5 of my total SP... TL;DR - Is there a way to 'undo' a skill investment, or will there ever be the option (AKA another 'respec')? If there isn't, there should be, for people like myself who can't decide what they want, and when they figure it out it's too late. Did some detective work around here and apparently I'm not alone in making this mistake. Damn.
No way at the moment.
I'm probably going to get flamed here, but let me make a point.
CCP comes from making Eve. Eve is a rare beast in terms of MMOs. Unlike most out there, Eve rewards the smart players, and the dumb players get punished for making dumb moves. This does two things. First, dumb players get smarter, by learning what works and what doesn't. Second, the game becomes more "real" because you don't have the constant dumbing down of the game that you see so often elsewhere. You're environment becomes an immersive one with dangers and consequences for things.
So far, CCP has been sticking to their guns pretty much with Dust as well. You get rewarded for making wise decisions, and, well, you pay the price for making dumb decisions. I know this is kinda harsh, but that's part of what makes Eve great, and hopefully, that will be part of what makes Dust great.
So, personally, I kinda hope they don't ease up too much here. Decisions should have consequences. You should have to actually think about them, maybe even research them before jumping in. I know that goes counter to the console FPS mentality, but I'm hoping Dust breaks that mold. |
