Correct. And everybody knows EVE has never had any problems or difficulties with balance. Good games never have to build up momentum, slowly correct errors, and make mistakes. All the good pieces of artwork in history were made at once, with no revision, editing, or problems. Dust is obviously doomed to fail, as the beta isn't perfectly balanced. |

Most great artworks in history took years to create.
Rome wasn't built in a day.
Even you took nine months to appear (average).
No problems? Most of the great artists went crazy and ended up with addictions, these greatly affected their work.

It's this kind of thinking that will hurt the game in long run, yeah, you tell CCP that you'll wait 5 years for them to make some decent improvements. The problem with Uprising is that they didn't make improvements from Chromosome, they completely changed everything, they may as well have started from scratch... 1 week before release.

Nail on head sir.
But it wont matter who is hating or fanboying - when the direct rival titles drop and the other big game shooters come out we will see if this game still has enough to offer.
Here is hoping that the playerbase will skyrocket come next week and I am also hoping that CCP has a much faster update schedule with regards to balancing the game.
Now that Sharpshooter and Weaponry Damage are gone they should be able to make balance changes to weapons much quicker (think bi-weekly). That should also quell alot of the nerf and rage threads. Nobody wants to drop huge amounts of SP in a weapon or skill and have it stink for months on end. |

I have two words for those that feel this way (and I have seen it a few times the past couple days)...marketplace competition. You see Eve could afford to spend years tinkering and getting things wrong and fixing them because Eve is the ONLY game like it on the marketplace. Copetition in Eve's pond is virtually nil. The console FPS marketplace, on the other hand, is the most competatiive market in video gaming, period. CCP does not have years to get Dust right because gamers have no place else to go for this sort of game. Yes Dust has features and promises more than those games ever will, that is why I have defended this game and CCP to friends and posters on forums since I got into the beta in February. But after screwing me on this aurum refund (yes I am still pissed about the MAG suits) if they release the game as it is playing today, I will not be defending it when people rip[ this game (and they will rip this game apart) and I am certainly not going to spend anymore money on this game. These aren't threats, just facts, and yes I am only one person, but at least half the playerbase on these forums is angry about something since yesterday.
So yeah if CCP thinks they can treat Dust like Eve development wise and get away with it they are naive. |

I take it you didn't play eve in 2003? It wasn't anything compared to what it is now. Dust (like eve) will continue to evolve, and it will get better and better. |

With accurate terminology, this sounds slightly worse.
But only slightly. It's still CCP, and they were hearing the same thing for a LOOOONG time with EVE. |

Eve only had time to evolve because CCP was not just a big fish in a small pond it is the ONLY fish in its pond, it had room and time to grow because it was not facing competition. Dust is a guppy in a lake full of pirahnas, it isn't going to have time to grow because the competition is going to eat it alive. IF it releases and is reviewed in this state. You really think Sony is going to support a f2p game that doesn't help convince people to buy playstations because the game reviewed terribly and because half its player base trashes it on gaming sites? This belief that Dust will just grow like Eve is silly. Different games, different markets, different competition = different pressures.
And I am not one who has been bashing CCP or Dust until yesterday! I was drinking the CCP kool-aid until they dropped this as their launch product. |

But I have to say, I'm not at the point where I'm prepared to "bash" CCP for these problems.
Yes, Uprising has issues. Every build so far has had issues. They really, REALLY should have been dropping this build DURING Fanfest, or IMMEDIATELY after it. And they shouldn't have been making adjustments based on such a tiny sample of players before releasing it publicly. It's not ready, and it'll probably take more than a week to get it ready.
At worst, I hope they scrap the 14th as release day, and try again when they're ACTUALLY ready for release. With a whole game's worth of content. |

Well congrats to EVE, I'm not sure if everyone knows this but the game we are testing is called Dust. Yes it has the same developers but it is different markets and they aren't done the same way.
You see, CCP might be successful in one market but not in the other. I'll provide an example you guys might understand, your local mailman might not be able to be your next brain surgeon.
Doomsayers are a bit extreme but they help instigate CCP (The local mailman) to work harder to achieve the ultimate goal of making Dust a better game(Become a brain surgeon).
Obviously my example provides a perfect example |

Dust doesn't have to have the same numbers of the largest franchises to be successful. I think some of you underestimate the value of being different and occupying a niche.
Not that I expect naysayers to even understand those concepts beyond a dictionary definition. |
