Just today I played a game against a friend of mine who uses a keyboard and mouse. He is able to use the Amarr assault suit and strafe side to side faster than I can in a Minmatar assault suit. I tested this against another friend of mine who uses keyboard and mouse who is in the same suit as I am, and he's even faster. It turns out that when using a Ds3 your character slows to a stop before you switch strafe direction, but when using a keyboard you change direction almost instantaneously. This is a HUGE advantage for keyboards when playing a game where milliseconds are precious for dodging bullets, especially when the mouse is already 10x more accurate (even more so now that the sensitivity's been tweaked). Why is it that you cannot have either both slow to a stop then change direction or have both instantly switch direction? <--------And before anyone tries it, the bacon is already implied |

The problem is ur staffing wrong with the controller not that kbm is faster. When u straff with the controller u can't go just side to side because its a joystick so it makes since that u come to a stop if u just go side to side because ur making the stick go back to 0 before it goes the other way. When u straff with a joystick u need to do it in circles not lines. The controller actually is superior at straffing if u are doing it right |

Circling backwards or forwards to get to the other direction means you are moving in a half circle to get there, which means you are taking twice as long to get there as you would if you went straight. With you having to stop to change directions moving straight, that means you are taking about the same amount of time to get the same distance regardless of whether you're circle or straight strafing, so you might as well just have straight up side to side strafed. Also, I typically find it much less useful to circle strafe when on the same altitude as someone else, it only feels useful when they have altitude on you. When face to face it feels better to straight strafe in the opposite direction once they start hitting you, circling back just feels like it takes longer.
And either way, if one control scheme is gimped, you should add a mechanic to make other control schemes fit into the same mold, especially when the one one method already has an uncorrectable advantage when aiming. |

Seeing as the controller doesnt even allow sprint-strafing, on top of the delay in switching directions, i think something needs to be done about this. Newer dust players (and older players who simply prefer the feel of the controller) will likely not have kb/mouse for their ps3 and are at a huge disadvatage currently. The problem is just compounded currently with the hit detection issues - a sprint-strafer is 99 times harder to hit that a normal dualshock strafer.
Please, CCP, try dust yourself with a kb/mouse and then try it with a controller, you'll see what we're talking about!
p.s. To the nub that said strafe in circles on the ps3 controller... you realize that means you head straight into or away from your target half the time, right? Sounds healthy. |
