Yup, nova knives are awesome...but only if you spec them up all the way
It's a different play style though, you need to be waaaay more situationally aware than an AR player. |

They don't...you can kill stuff quite a way further out with shotguns even after the patch. Knives require a lot more micro managing because you really have to be in your opponents face to stand a chance.
Having said that, once you get the hang of it, it's good fun. You won't get those crazy 40-1 KD ratios as with the laser rifle pre-patch, but the kills are soooooo much more rewarding. Nothing like stalking a heavy for a while before picking your place of attack |

Knives are fine right now, they shouldn't be touched. Now I'm starting to have second thoughts on the sprint part. Keep as is and the avoid the "NERF KNIVES" threads, or add sprint/charge support and get endless "QQ NERF KNIVES" threads?
They would still be balanced.
Gun users have a major advantage at range where knifers do zero damage. So that's 1:0 in favor of gun users. Up close, due to transversal speed the clear advantage goes to the knifer. Keep in mind up close isn't like "shotgun close"...it's "in your face" close. Unless you are really that close the gun user still "wins" because the knifer does zero damage. So at short range it's balanced because often no one will do any real damage because the knifer won't be in range and the gunner won't be able to aim quick enough. So that's 2:1 at short in favor of gunners still. Now at "in your face distance" the knifer has, and SHOULD HAVE the clear advantage...just like the gunner has the advantage at range.
Scouts are paper-thin...while assault/heavies have a tank. In return, scouts get the speed advantage. In short, that's balanced.
Not sure if you played EVE, but if you have:
Anyone complaining knifers do too much damage is like someone complaining about a Deimos slaughtering his 1400mm Tempest at 1km distance. Because those very same people won't ever say their tempest does too much damage when it meets the same Deimos at 80km.
People simply need to come up with tactics. As a knifer your job is to stay the hell out of sight at range. That's your main tactic. As a gunner, you're tactic is the exact opposite. No matter how much damage knifers do, at range they are 100% worthless and simply die. So why shouldn't knifers have the same disadvantage up close?
There are entire maps where knifers are useless because they're so open. You can't sneak up on people well enough without being spotted too far out...so you simply die in a hail of bullets. So why shouldn't there be maps where knifers and other close range dudes should have the advantage? |
