Hello all,
I was talking in IRC earlier about the broken weapons and how they could be resolved, and CPM Hans Jagerblitzen highlighted that the issues run far far deeper than weapon buffs and nerfs.
As it stands, we get given a new build, the forums QQ, the IRC light up, people rage quit, later they quit, and we are stuck with a build for x amount of time with hotfixes added here and there.
This is not the way to present a community with new changes.
Gamers hate drastic change to their game. They hate it even more when it unsolicited, and even more so when it doesn't work / is unsatisfactory / worse than the original implementation.
CCP needs to provide us with 2 things.
1) More transparency about what is coming Instead of dump it on us - let us look at the stats, see what we say about the items, the features and what we might feel uncomfortable about. Big changes? We need to know! The community is built around the playstyle of the game, and changing the game from a COD like shooter (die in 1 second) to a halo type shooter (die in 5 or more seconds) will shape the community.
2) Provide a procedure to prevent this from happening again Because what people might not have noticed is that EVERY build, we take 1 step forward, 5 steps back. CCP needs to get a community opinion before releasing it to the masses - It can be from the CPM only, or include them and some invites, but CCP can not rely on personal opinion for the community. It is "us" and "them", that's just how it is, the community and it's developers. The reason for this is accountability. We can not relate to CCP for their errors when we have little opinion or understanding of each and every build. We need to find an acceptable solution for both sides.
My solution to #2 is to provide a small test server; small enough to host 1 game for the CPM to use. The CPM then can feedback how the game needs to be changed before release. This isn't one or two matches, this is a constant test with CCP as and when CCP asks for their opinion. CCP NEED to be on board with this and not just say "here is a test server, go play" the CPM should be actively involved in testing. These builds are now going on for months, and the changes being made are blind sided by the community, yet here we have them, previously untested by anyone outside of CCP.
The community is a mishmash of so many opinions, but the CPM was selected to represent and pass on their approval for the next build. It means if something does go wrong we can turn and say "It wasn't because CCP didn't listen to us, it's because we didn't foresee this coming" and from there, we have already shifted the blame from "you" to "we".
I asked a long time ago for a test server, but and I remember nullarbor telling me why it wasn't possible at the time.
But if this isn't possible, there needs to be a solution to prevent this from happening again, or we will continue to go fr |
