So the scan radius of every dropsuit has been nerfed to hell, including the scout (!) - This effectively makes dropsuit scanning completely useless unless there's a heavy sprinting directly behind you. This is nice for sneaky players, of course, because they don't suddenly appear on people's radar and get murdered, but there's another problem with this. The main penalty for shields is intended to be signature radius, or making them easier to scan down. Armour's penalty will be vastly worse than the shields 'penalty' with this change. It's not a penalty if you're only -slightly easier to detect 2 metres away-, is it? The active scanner is probably intended to be the solution to this, but from the footage already shown it looks as if it can scan down anything if it's used properly. This works out to being a buff to shields, as they become stealthier than they should be. Armour dropsuits actually have a more difficult time because of their speed penalty, and shields only become more attractive when they have no penalty for equipping them. Forcing people to use the active scanner by cutting the equipment slots from the majority of suits is also stupid - it restricts ammo, healing, and revives from people because logistics suits now cost millions of SP to reach. |

There are no penalties to shield extenders as of this moment. They do not give you a higher signature or anything. |

True but it wont stop me from going Armour and still being competitive. |

This is not the case in the current build.
EDIT: Also, people beat me to it. |

CCP Wolfman wrote:Dropsuits also have a passive scanning function that works in the same way as the scanner but is radial and always on. Your profile is not dynamic so it is not affected by movements such as crouching, sprinting or actions such as shooting. Nor does your ratio of shield to armour have any effect. This is something we might consider developing further in the future.
'Something we might consider developing' doesn't sound to me like 'this is what we mean to do'. |

Shields won't slow you down, but they make your ship easier to track. |
