This is going to be a multi-part suggestion/feedback based on balancing Ambush. There will be three topics in total that will almost completely balance ambush to pure perfection.
Ambush squads
I am an ambush player most of the time, only time I end up in skirmish is by playing with a squad who wants to play that mode, which is pretty rare nowadays since some skirm stats aren't counting, like kills and deaths. Plus ambush gives better rewards per time spent anyway (which is likely part of the problem in ambush balancing right now).
I also play solo most of the time as well. As while I do enjoy playing in squads, a lot of the time I just want to enjoy the game on my own terms. Play with my own style, and do my own thing without having to worry about my squad and what they are doing/planning.
Well over the last month or so, ambush has become such a miserable experience for me. As a solo player, the best game I can get in is when each team is void of squads and pretty even as far as talent is concerned, matches turn out more fun that way and there is a lot less one-sided team domination occurring (it does still happen, but is mostly manageable).
However as of late, the amount of organized squads playing ambush has increased by 10 fold, every match I get in has at least 1-3 full squads on the other team, or my team. And for some reason, I always end up in Euro land against a lot of the better CHRONOS players. I am an ok player, not great by any means but I have my moments, however playing as a solo player in ambush against organized squads on the other team, (who are usually recognizable names that I know are good players), is pretty much 100% of the time a massive steamroll for whatever team that doesn't have the organized squads.
Not to mention the orbital situation with squads, as dominating squad getting orbitals, starts to exponentially dominate and the entire match snowballs extremely quickly. It is insult to injury.
Lately I spend more time trying to find a half-decent balanced match than I do playing the game, and it is incredibly frustrating. And even when I find a balanced match ( if it isn't full), 2-4 mins into a fun game a whole bunch of squads roll in and start dominating, thus absolutely ruining that match.
The solution, as you may have guessed, is to offer an ambush mode without the possibility of squadding up (pre-formed or post-formed). Squads add far too much unbalance to whatever team they are on (especially with orbitals), and since matchmaking in this game is busted beyond belief, somehow multiple squads end up on one side, while the other side is left with all solo and newer players. Heck even if I land on the team that is dominating, it isn't fun at all.

Matchmaking = Instant battle.
Dictionary definition aside, it is matchmaking, as it certainly isn't server lists (unlike battles under the merc tab, in which you can choose the server you want to play in).
No choice in what server you play in = matchmaking.
Cosgar wrote:Just like I said in your HAV butthurt "analysis," if you implement a game mode that ignores an important game mechanic, a large number of the playerbase will ignore that mechanic altogether. What? You want to nerf squads now too?
If players don't want to squad, so what? Let them not squad up. But they shouldn't be punished for it by having to face uber-squads that steamroll beyond belief. Leave that for gamemodes specifically designed for teamwork, like skirmish, FW and PC.
Granted Dust is a game revolved around teamwork, but why limit the choices players have to enjoy themselves? It's not as if squads are going away in every mode across the board, just one. And if players want to solo and enjoy a balanced match as well, they should have the option. |

Cosgar wrote: Dust 514 isn't a solo game. End of story. Stop trying to make the game into something it's not: CoD with a shade of chrome on it. What are you going to cry about nex? Orbitals?
So why have different modes then? Why not make Dust 100% skirmish all the time?
Not sure why you are so against giving players more choices. If players want to solo and enjoy a nice infantry vs infantry battle without unbalanced squads steamrolling another, why stop them?
I dislike COD as much as the next guy here (although did thoroughly enjoy COD4, MW2, and BO for the most part) but are we so insecure about Dust that we assume anything different than the standard will somehow turn the game into a failed COD clone?
It's pretty much Godwin's law but instead of calling somebody a ****, you reference COD.

I could spend hours hammering at my keys as to why your narrow line of thinking doesn't work in New Eden and you still won't get it. This is the third time you've made look foolish in three days. Save yourself the embarrassment and quit while you're ahead.
I'll man up to any contradictions I have made (most curious about the three times in three days you speak of). So please, be specific. More than likely a misunderstanding or misinterpretation on your part, but I'll admit to it if I am truly wrong.
I have given you the time and effort on these threads, so why not return the favor? |
