Planned on being a Knifer... Getting cold feet at the last minute.
Thinking about it, what can Knives do that the Shotgun can't? I guess having ammo is a downside, but the Shotgun has a much greater range, plus it's a lot easier to aim. The viewmodel on Nova Knives is so limited, so I frequently find I get up close and get completely disoriented the second the enemy moves out of my range.
What do you think? Honestly, what can the Nova Knives do that the Shotguns can't? |

Honestly, what can the Nova Knives do that the Shotguns can't? Here's a scenario. Let's say you're on Manus Peak and those ****ing snipers are up on the big peak slaughtering your teammates. You decide to "take care" of them yourself. You get up there and there's like three of them. This is what happens with the shotgun compared to the knives.
Shotgun: Poing! Other snipers hear your rusty spring and turn around to gun you down.
Knives: Schick! Schick! One sniper is down but the others don't realize you're there and you can carve the other two up. |

The patch notes did mention a melee auto aim effect. If this applies to the Nova Knives then it may well be easier to use them.
Of course it's hard to tell from the video's how good this effect is, I'd recommend fitting a suit with the militia variant and trying them out when you're in a skirmish match where there isn't much opposition. |

You can run both. I do, sometimes. I like my SMGs too. Stealthy with the blades, rangey (as a lvl 5 SS could be) with the shotty. OHK machine. But, tomorrow is a new day and Flaylocks look super duper. |

They are masively buffing knives. They are now a valid sidearm (sprint charge, quick slices, larger hit area, etc) |

I imagine its a no scan profile raising weapon e.g- no real spike in signature on enemy scanners.
Not only are the Knives a pretty decent CQC weapon on those player not paying attention but they do some serious damage if two strikes can be chained together quickly, which in Uprising they can.
So for me it seems like 25% Bonus from Minmatar Scout Suit + Weaponry 10% bonus to hand held weapons + Nova Knife Proficiency x% + Melee Damage Enhancers = Solid sniper killing tool. |

Look I can speculate that you will be able to stack various bonuses to the Nova Knives in Uprisiing but I have no real Idea if this will turn out to be the case perhaps at some point the NK will be relagated to a module slot that alters the melee animation making it more potent? I dont really know.
At present they are pretty sweet weapons to use on scouts as side arms. |

Nova's are the best. The new Scout suits will only do 80HP melee damage. Their heads will still shred like lettuce.
Them, 2.
Me, I quit counting after 18. I know there were more but I couldn't be bothered counting such an easy kill.
Shottys are OP! And need PreNerfing for their next ten Nerfs. Past that they are fine.
Once the Scout hit box is fixed I suspect I might like them better as targets than I do currently. |

As someone who currently runs a Shotgun Scout regularly, Nova Knives are one of the few weapons that have any advantages over a Shotgun for CQC. In the current build, they have enough negatives to more than outweigh the benefits, but many problems are being resolved.
At the moment, firing a Shotgun is LOUD (and will be getting louder). It's not just the volume of the sound though, it also raises your profile when you fire. Knives have neither of those disadvantages. It's possible, based on dev comments, that firing the Shotgun won't light you up on the map/HUD any more, but it's still a loud weapon. Knives are barely audible unless you're the one being hit by them.
In the new build, there's a wider hit arc for the Knives, I think they may have been given a slight range buff, you can sprint while charging, hold charge while sprinting, and you don't need a full charge before swinging, so you can hit with a fully charged slash then follow up with another strike immediately. |
