I have been thinking about this for a sec, and I'll give you the jist of where it is I ma coming from.
IN the last keynote speeches at Fanfest, they notified the public, and US beta testers, that basically every race should have a version of all the same style/function of a weapon for each weapon slot (i.e., pistols, AV, knives, combat rifles, basic vehicles - LAV, HAV, dropship). With this in mind, should one consider the build coming up, Uprising, a complete game for release if even the basic issue gear has not been developed and implemented into the game for each race.
What are peoples thoughts on this? I mean I would like to spec into my race versus me having to go against it, I would like to have the new gear before PC, I would like to have my Minnies be Minnies.

They don't care. They'll call it release for the press and still call it beta to shield it from reviews. Their PR is a freaking mess. |

Blah blah blah. If you don't like CCP I don't think anyone is forcing you to play.
Anyhow, they have chosen to release it. If they can keep bringing out fixes and new content then I don't see any reason that new people won't be happy as things will be arriving while they work into skilling up. |

This is purely CCP's attempt to have their cake and eat it too. Something many people have recently decried as a great injustice. |

You said the same thing when they said this wasn't CR, get over it. It makes no difference. |

While the game will never be complete, they really should wait until:
> The full set of racial dropsuits and assault rifles are in. > A proper in-game tutorial where the player is taught to hack vehicles and installations, call strikes, set orders, switching weapons with tapping instead of holding, setting down equipment, and other finer gameplay aspects are explained. People aren't going to understand the game and it will get bad reviews. > PVE is added. PVE is needed at launch for an MMO. > Some sort of New Eden codex or timeline explaining the history of the world, why we're fighting, and who we're fighting for. The game has no storytelling to explain lore or why we should care. |

It feels like they're releasing on 5/14 just for the coincidence of the date and game's name.
IMO release should only happen when there is some form of PvE and a full tutorial |

This is probaly one wild guest but i doubt this is the all of the planned uprising build. The two reasons for this is the fact the patch note list for this build is called Uprising 1.0 and they said in one of the latest devblogs that they are planning to have a content update soon. It is quite possible this update will be uprising 2.0. Now why would they call it uprising 1.0 if there wasn't going to be a 2.0 . So ccp probably decided to release what was ready and call it uprising 1.0 so they could make some finishing touches to odyssey and after it is released they will start finishing off the rest of the stuff planned for the build and then release all of it under uprsing 2.0. |

Please explain what difference it makes whether they call it a full release or an open beta at this point. |

if you do your research you'll notice that they've said the rest of the suits and knives and pistols and ar's are coming soon (not TM) which means in the next few months.
launch doesn't mean very much to ccp. they're trying to make something bigger. |

If a beta has gameplay issues at its core, players feel encouraged to report them to better the game. If those same issues remain in a full release, players will fell encouraged to point out the developers laziness to fix them. |

You must not be an EVE player. The Beta went on for a years from what my EVE friends tell me. Not a game I was ever interested in so it never mattered.
CCP has a long view on the game. The Release phrase doesn't really matter much as CCP/Shanghai is going to keep adding features, weapons, vehicles and skills during each patch cycle. That is how EVE has been handled and there should be little expectation that DUST will be run differently.
If they decided to call it Released versus Beta what is the actual difference? The Beta version has been reviewed in the press and commented on repeatedly. There are web sites dedicated to it, other than CCP sites.
The only reason this is an issue is the Merc Pack Refund situation. CCP has come up with a solution that many thought, myself included, was the only way to address the issue. I don't want another character reset. Ever. If they want their $20 Merc Pack reset then they should get what has happened with each and every reset in the past. Which is a full character wipe and all items from the pack returned including AUR.
You and I seem to occupy different areas in New Eden. Yours doesn't look very good from over here. |
