And by this I mean in regards to the perceived equipment slot "nerfs" in assaults and scouts.
So the assault guys dont like it that unlike most fps games they are much less versitile without the second slot and dito for the scout suits.
And obviously they are correct.
I have watched several videos of elite clans and and many have just assaults doing everything in a match there was no need for any other class because they were fast, could tank almost as well as heavys, scanners were broken so using an assault as a scout made sense, having two slots in a team of 4 assaults meant that amoungst the four of you you don't need a logi as you can all have a good combination of support equipment without the need of anything.
From an FPS and individual point of view this is great you can work just as well in a team or on your own there is no weakness to your class.
IImagine for one second though if this was a fantasy MMO one character class able to every other single role and still be the best killing machine on the field that would be one broken mmo.
So in my mind the assault in cromozone is an over powered paladin who can do everything that the other classes can do and still better at dishing out the damage and not lose any of their dps.
I think the new changes really emphasise class roles and is actually better for it.
There is now a reason to be a scout (or thief like char in a fantasy MMO). No longer can the assault (warrior) class be as good as you because now you have one of the greatest assets on any battefield the element of suprise. You can now come out of no where to attack people from behind when your team mates are engaging the enemy for instant take downs via shotguns or knova knife backstabs. The enemy wont know your coming because the scanner will never see you!
Logi's are now a critical element in any group. Anyone that plays any fantasy MMO knows that healers are critical to any team. They will keep you up on your feet or get you back into the fight as long as they are alive. The enemy knows this so logi's now become a high value target and taking out the support mechanism from a squad should be high prioraty.
Wether the healer is protecting a defensive squad (heavys etc) or helping an assault force plans will be needed to make sure that the logi is kept alive so he can keep you alive.
So basicly what it all means for me is that its going to be that although twitch shooting skill (and strafing etc) of the fps warrior will allways be on of the greates assets on the battelfield. This can now be mitgated be a less skilled team by using team work and using diffrent builds of the squad to complement each others strengths and mitgate each others weaknesses. For me this makes for a much more intresting and tactical battelfield than one class rules them all which is currently the case in the Chromosone build.
For intrest my take on the characters now are:
Heavies = Sword and board warriors. Take the damage and dish it out i.e. tanks. Assaults = Paladin, Mailed Ranger class. Hybrid tank class that deal the damage but faster take less damage have some support power. Logi's = Clerics healing and buffs. Keep the party alive in good shape and even give advantages through buffs i.e. combat armour repping via nanos or remote nanos. Scout = Assasin, Thief. Low armour but high damage due to suprise attacks spead, Stealth and suprise are the scouts are main tools.
I know its not quite the same but you can see the dynamics work to some extent. I realise I havent included dropships or tanks either but were talking more about the infantry balance and tactics in this thread more.
So I hope that people that are hardcore FPS guys can see how the game is balanced a little to teamwork with intresting specalising of classes meaning that some of the advantages in a battle is now less about one suit who can do it all but intresting combinations of tactics and loudouts with diffrent classes that the some is greater than its parts :). |

Well, as Dust is a facet of the EVE universe we should look to EVE. And EVE doesn't do MMO like any other MMO.
Seems like some of the changes in Uprising are more like the tiericide initiative in EVE and not so much about introducing the tropes of a fantasy MMORPG class system to the FPS genre. |

The problem is that people know not to go raiding in a mute random mob, whereas people join instant battles solo without mics.
Squads of four also dramatically limmited group diversity. The only place we had a decent size group was 8v8 in corp battles, but there the stakes were so high nobody wanted to experiment.
We've been playing for a year in an environment designed to favor the do-it-all class, so I'm not surprised to find that is what is being demanded of CCP.

This is what they should be Heavies- Mgalekgolo (hunters) the beafiest hard-htting ground troop of halo , they soak of a great deal of damage and deal alot of damage The heavies we have now Heavies- Jiralhanae (brutes) they take a little more damage than the elites and deal minimun damage Assualt - Sanghelli (elites) they are the powerhouse and currently the most used troopers for the covenant just like the assualt most used suit and its a powerhouse Logistics- humans? the humans in halo are constantly only there for support roles Scout-Jackals/ skirmishers these are fast moving enemies that get behind enemy lines, also these are the sniper roles of the covenant

Team fortress and BF3 have pretty distinct classes...more distinct then Dust 514 in my opinion.
No one would accuse those two games of being MMOs.
I don't think the presence of a class system is what defines an MMO. |

They are, but it's important to remember that Tiericide also rebalanced ships to better reflect their intended roles.
So in that way, CCP is making the EVE ships more like a class in a fantasy MMO. It's just a class you can take off and put on a different one. |

But eve is very relatable to fantasy tropes. There are assasin ships (cloacked bombers) etc , Tank ships, Sniper ships (ranger types). When I played eve I could very much see that eve ships are often designed to fit roles just like in a fantasy setting. And that usuing combinations of these specialty types means that the tactics vary dependant of the fleet or squad build.
People find eve very complex and I believe that Dust is a much simpler and therefore much easier to compare for team dynaics to a fantasy setting.
As a logi myself I very much use many of the skills that I have learnt in various fantasy MMO's in dust.
E,G. wether as a shadow cleric in WoW or a Logi in Dust i use the following:
Communcating incoming threats Multiasking healing, rezing damage output. The ability to watch the battelfield tactically and not just zoned in on the fight immediatly in front of you. The ability to make snap triage situations. I.E. theres four things I need to do in this instant however which one thing will benefit my team most in this instant. etc. |

Anyway i really do not see this as a problem. Or at least not the big problem as an FPS MMO.
It is the leveling system that is broken. Better players are getting beat by worse players simply because they have been here longer and have all the SP and gear that comes with being here longer.
If good players are getting beat by bad players then it defeats the purpose of what an FPS (MMO or otherwise) is supposed to be. Which is to be a game of player skill.
CCP seems to be moving away from the leveling system or at least making it less important. This is a good thing. |
