This is a brainstorming thread.
The question:
What do new players need help with?
As a new build is imminent, I would like to post this thread as a place where we can discuss what people do in game and how we as a community can condense knowledge as to how we properly apply tactics on the battlefield.
I will start with spawn beacons. While there are many applications the spawn beacon provides, the implementation I have noticed on the battlefield irks me.
- First, the beacon will spawn you facing the direction it was placed. I hate when someone thinks they are slick and just throws a spawn beacon willy-nilly into a corner near an assault objective. This practice is very bad as now everyone who spawns at your beacon will be facing the corner you just tossed it towards. Take your time and place the beacon in a way that people spawning on it are faced in an appropriate direction to stave off spawn camping from near proximity or afar. Situational awareness.
- Second, closer is not always better. A well thought out tac insert emplacement should be relatively close to your objective. But you do not want overwatch to spawn in the thick of battle. So pay attention to your surroundings. Place a beacon that is in between your objective, at a safe distance to avoid easy camping from OPFOR, and a defensible position. Also take into consideration higher ground and vantage points for long range combatants to occupy to pick off approaching reinforcements that do not spawn at the objective. This also allows close range combatants to group up before making another attempt after a failed first strike.
- Third, As a person that is placing inserts, keep your eyes open for a new zone to place your insert if the enemy hones in on your first one. This keeps the OPFOR on their toes and it also allows for flanking maneuvers to become available from the clones that have fallen in the battle for said objective.
- Last, while I am not an expert in the field, do not just drop an uplink because you have just spawned on one during an assault. Unless it is your uplink that you spawned on and you wish to refresh it. The reasons for this is, more angles of attack the better. When the enemy seems like they are coming from everywhere the defense cannot provide or support a combined repel action. As an aggressor all angles are great for you, yet you do not want to run headlong into a combined wall of defensive fire. Take your second or third uplink and use cardinal direction as your placement area. 180 is best, but if it is not achievable through the circumstance use 90 degree iterations. Refer to point 2 as well
Now I open the floor to others. |

I never noticed the spawn facing the way the DU is placed allot of people playing with me spawn facing walls apparently and for that I apologise.
Edit also I am sick of putting a DU in a good place so people spawn on it and drop 3-4 within a few feet so we have many DU's to choose from but they all spawn you at the same spot such fun. |

There is a multitude of people that don't realize yours and mine first point I fear. This is why I stopped spawning on most random DU.
Your second point and my fourth happens so often I just laugh. It is a total waste of a DU to drop +1 in close proximity. At that point they are only fishing for points and not helping the effort at all.

People who arrive from somewhere other than EVE will likely be confused by the concept of fittings.
Additionally, the always available militia gear that does not require skills is not an immediately obvious concept.
Perhaps the upcoming release will help noobs with these items?
Also, I wonder if it would make sense to allow a new player a short window that lets them respect. Maybe a week of all the skill rearrangement you like. If anything like that was done it would have to be very clear that the concept is not going to stick around -- or they could fool around and end up even worse off. |
