Hello,
From what I've heard, it sounds like CCP is actually buffing the heavy suits themselves while simultaneously nerfing the HMG, the heavy suit's main companion. I was wondering why this might be, and then it hit me...
CCP is trying to makes heavy suits match their name, as an armor type, and move them away from merely a "heavy weapon carrier".
I think they are trying to encourage the use of heavies with non-heavy weapons, making them mainly an armor type with the added bonus of being able to use heavy weapons. This would boost customization beyond the point where we are now, where heavies use HMGs, scouts use shotguns, and all other weapons are used with assaults, into a more EVE-like area of calculated trade-offs.
At least that's my theory. Do you think this could be the case, or am I way off? |

All I know is its good for heavys- the new build has them at 405 armor and 405 shield something like that.... 400 something.. And HMG's shouldnt be able to do so much damage over long range... So CQC wit HMG is good... |

The range on the hmg is terrible already! Without sharpshooter 5 you can hardly damage anyone beyond 20 meters which is nothing in this build. The frustrating thing about cqc with hmgs ia that assaults can strafe faster than you can track, same with scouts so you're pretty much screwed at your optimal range. If they lowered the range ever so slightly but gave it 20% more damage that would be fair. Otherwise it needs ita base range extended.

HMG have optimal ranges go from 34 to 40 meters and max range is 65m
compared to a proto AR which have optimal of 39m and max range of 87m.
oh look, HMG has the same optimal range as AR... yeah low range, cool story bro. |

Takes getting used to and you can't forge snipe like that, but it makes you able to turn like normal infantry. Also, no. There would be absolutely nothing fair about 20% more damage. I'm only using an MH-82 and I already annihilate people with it. |

I'll have to try that. I currently have it set to 80 and its close but not close enough.
I was saying that in the next build if they are lowering the base range they need to make it do more damage. Since we are hig and slow and essentially the broad side of a barn and are hit just as easily we need to be able to be at least somewhat respectable at ranges beyond cqc.
I like the MH82 also and its solid but it costs too dang much to lose more rhan 2 or 3 in a game. My MH82 fit is about 76k and I can usually go 5-1 or 6-1 with it but once I die more than 2 times I'm losing money, and with the current outcomes of games almost exclusively being 1) stomp enemies 2) get stomped by enemies and very rarely being a close or competative game, I just can't bring myseld ro use it too often |

Oh look ADS on AR gives you pinpoint precision unattainable with ADS on hmg. And you're seriously bitching about 1 meter of optimal range? Look at that 22m difference in maximum range!

He was actually doing well in Skim Junction, and I saw another Heavy SG in (cannot find the name (City setting lots of corners and inside spaces)) Anywhere engagement ranges are very limited it seems to work.

Heavy SG is a great "omgthisguyischasingmetothesupplydepotansineedtochangefits" fit. I like to think of it as the heavy version of the shotgun surprise. |

I didn't insult myself at all. There is a 1 meter range difference that's fine but don't pretend that the difference in attainable accuracy between the HMG and the AR doesn't make a difference. Doing so insults your intelligence, not mine.
And no, I don't know the exact mechanics of falloff, but I do know that beyond your optimal range damage drops precipitously (I've heard it goes to 10%) , but not certain. I'm more than willing to be enlightened by someone that can cite information from CCP on these things though (includinf your mentioned range stats).
Nope no whiners here, just forward-thinkers. Besides, are you really so butthurt by the idea that people are going to want rheir favorite stuff buffed? If you are I'll go ahead buy you some lube, you're gonna need it I'd you want to hang out on the forums. |

i'm all for this. the HMG is actually not that good in close quarters, but really good at near to medium range, which is really annoying for me personally.
i can crouch down and melt a dude at medium range in under a second, but a scout bouncing around in front of me it tricky to hit since my bullets are a focused stream instead of a spray.
i MUCH PREFER a spray, so here's what you do
-current HMG becomes new assault hmg. assault hmg now has a use -nerf the max range on the hmg by a good margin, take 20% off its max range at least and give it some good falloff -boost the cone of fire of the hmg -boost the per bullet damage of the hmg
this turns it into the ******* "finger o' death" in cqc but THAT'S THE POINT.
as for armor? i'm totally ok with that going up, so long as i'm slower to compensate. actually i'd prefer base movement speed to be slightly faster so i can strafe worth a damn, but just take away sprinting entirely. i won't mind |
