Spent some time in DUST today for the first time and I'm relatively new to competitive shooters like this. Jumped onto the planet and immediately got an assist on a vehicle kill. I thought to myself "I'm freakin awesome!" then I spent the next hour getting my ass handed to me in my newb equipment as I ran around like a chicken trying to avoid the foxes....I AM BRUTAL! So.....I plan on playing more, but I have got to be the easiest kill on any map.
It took me a while to clue into the skill system, which looks to be a complete port of the EVE online game I played years ago. So that at least is familiar. But for the amount that I die, I don't think I'll be spending any money on non permanent load outs until I can actually say I'm skilled at doing something. |

keep using free fits, until you learn the core mechanics of the game, improve on your aim, and pick a role to specialize into. you'll be on your way in no time. |

Welcome to dust! You may die alot in the begging but it will get better. Try following someone as soon as you hit the ground work on staying close to others. Don't forget to check out the training grounds on these forums as well lots of good info there.
Keep us posted on what you see as a new player, there are some great corps out here willing to train you as well.
Good luck merc. |

Welcome to New Eden! DUST 514 is a little different from what you're probably used to. Though you see some people in proto suits annihilating everyone, tactics are king. If you flank your opponents, you can even drop protosuits if you get some solid hits on them. Good to see you're getting your bearings a little bit, and I wish you the best of luck in dust.
I recommend joining a corporation such as Bojo's School of the Trades or DUST University to get you some help. |

It's not always the gear, you can kill protobears with militia with the right skills. Find what you like, skill into it almost exclusively, with just enough to have a moderately good AV fit and possibly a sniper fit for solo matches. |

Another piece of advice is to be aware that Starter Fits can be modified.
Copy the Assault - Triage [Starter Fit] and you can tweak it a little to load a Drop Uplink in place of the Nanite Injector. If you have Aurum, buy a Blueprint, otherwise it only costs something like 2000 ISK to have a deployable spawn point.
If you don't perform well with the Scrambler Pistol, make SMG versions of the Starters. You can throw a Shotgun in place of the AR on most Starter Fits without pushing yourself over the baseline PG/CPU stats.
If you want a cheap fitting with a new weapon you're trying out, find a way to cram it into a Starter, and you'll barely pay more than the cost of the weapon itself if you die. |

Imperfects just don't like new players getting good.
Six months ago they were untouchable, but most of the open beta talent went to other Corporations for various reasons and now there will actually be some good competition for them. |

I very often suggest that people play a logistics role to start out.
Fit a Militia Repair Tool and follow around the biggest, baddest guy you can find "attacking" him with your repair tool.
This will earn you War Points (WP) which translate into Skill Points (SP) and indirectly into money (ISK).
It will also help you practice aiming and moving with a squad.
Also, get a mic, turn on your Team voice chat, and listen way more than you talk. |

I'm glad to see that you're sticking with it! people complain every day that things need fixing things are op & up there isn't enough maps, guns, suits, variety, ect. and i can tell you right now it's not a perfect game and has a long ways to go. if you're just looking for a shooter dust will soon loose you interest. if on the other hand you're looking to find a shooter where being in a squad actually matters, a shooter were corp tags are enough to strike fear into you, a shooter were chat channels are as important as gun game, a shooter where you aren't alone. pull up a chair you're in for a hell of a ride. |
