I keep getting either the map menu or the vehicle menu whenever I sprint using L3 button. It is prevalent especially at the start of the match. |

First question is are you using the Sony Wireless Headset? If so, plug the charging/USB cable into your DS3. That solves the problem for most people.
If not, or the cable doesn't solve the Sony headset issue, then you might be having Blue Tooth interference problems. Adjust the position, turn off or eliminate any devices possible to reduce the interference. Some older wireless routers might be an issue although most modern versions shouldn't exhibit any such behavior. I am just mentioning the routers for completeness I don't really expect anybody to have a problem these days.
If your controller is older, or you rage toss it, than you might be having a problem with an internal connector. If you are technically inclined it is not a difficult job to open it up and clean the contacts. Some have foam behind the cable that contacts are on. The foam gets old it will not provide enough force to ensure an adequate connection.
The DS3 is warrantied in the US for 1 year. Keep your receipt and the packaging.
Search for DIY fixes on YouTube. iFixit.com has a complete breakdown of the DS3 as well as the PS3.
As far as getting it to work during the actual game play without having to do all the above try the R3 insta-fix. For most DS3 controller glitches pressing R3 (melee) will usually reset the controller state such that L1, R1, L2 and R2 will work. That should include L3 as it works for Select for myself.
I replaced my controller in January when it was on sale. The problems are definitely less but they are not gone. Just a head's up. |

As KalOfTheRathi already stated, older controllers tend to register digipad strokes when pressing the L3 button, due to a tape connector wearing out.
