I imagine dust514 could be a very competitive game, MAYBE even an esport if arena is added correctly, arena's are set-up by a player, per-designated rules are placed by the contract writer, (EX: no forge guns, no vehicles, player sizes etc etc.) the acceptor must comply to all rules (forced of course) and play the match for a per-determined amount of ISK set in the contract, players will receive FULL skills and unlimited equipment for these matches. Gambling can also be easily implemented into this system by letting others place bets on the winner of the match. This would take place in high-sec ofc because you get to have such strict rules if you wish... this would be fun for players AND on CCP's side it would generate new revenue from people interested ONLY in esports.
for the current game-state I'd say 100m minimum for one of these matches because of the whole full SP/equipment thing. maybe a 20% tax by an NPC. |

Yes, it could be a very competitive game but people that think the players should receive "full skills" and "unlimited equipment" in the arena should think a little bit more before saying that. The game is an MMOFPS with risk/reward. If you max out all skills, which is a big aspect of the MMO, you already have ruined a player's progression that could have taken years. And please, don't bother bringing up how it needs to be based on gungame, the game is more focused on SP rather than gungame.
tl;dr taking away the MAIN aspect of the game which is high risk high reward would make the gladiator arena no fun at all and giving all players the same skill points would just take away the MMO aspect. The rest of your suggestions are nice. |

Also, there is an arena being looked into by CCP if you don't already know.
then equal skills somehow, maybe in between the two players SP or something? it won't be an esport unless all players are on the same level in all aspects. |

I don't think individual player SP has to be limited Almighty. Current sports have a wide disparity in actual skill, yet you skill have top seed and bottom seeds play against each other every now and again.
It seems like you're advocating for a "meritocracy" of sorts. Every player, whether old or new, should be able to hop into a bracket in our hypothetical Esports league and have an equal chance of winning. I don't think that should be the goal, particularly due to the nature of the game.
I think that Dust - like any sport - should have standardized regulations for all teams. Perhaps you could have matches where teams were allotted an SP pool among all of them. Players could chose to divide that up however they'd like, rewarding many different play-styles. Perhaps you could have brackets based off of districts owned per period of time, the argument being that if a small corp can hold 20 districts as well as a large corp can, then they can compete with each other.
I don't think that everything about DUST has to be normalized to create a level playing field. Something do, but we should start a few levels (Team or corp wide regulations) higher |
