My first two weeks of Dust were hell, but I stuck it out, worked hard at my skills and joined a corp. In fact I started a month after Open Beta began, which meant I was way behind a lot of the other players. However, that didn't stop me, in fact I've now caught up and in some cases surpassed the "older' players in skill points.
No you haven't, with the cap in place it is impossible to do this unless the "older" player stopped playing altogether.Osiris Ausare wrote: Further, it's the skill of the players not the stats/items that makes a merc successful, but as I mentioned above it takes practice (remember Dust is not like COD or Battlefield, you need to evolve you game-style and it's possible as I've met quite a few COD players who love Dust). This is a foolish statement in this game. Player skill matters so minutely in this game it is ridiculous. The guy in the militia enforcer fit with every relevant skill maxed out is going to beat the new guy in the same fit in 98% of their confrontations, +/- 2%. Anyone who says otherwise is an apologist and wrong. It's why eSports will not work, it's why clans of year old players will destroy new clans. It's why so many people are able to wreck ambush matches in proto gear. Because actual "player skill" is so heavily trumped by skill points and gear.

Being part of a corporation is akin to being part of a family/group of friends and that is what makes this game so fascinating; remember it's also an MMO, as such, the community is very similar to the one's you would find in the RPG realm (yes there are Trolls out there, but for the most part it's all part of the vibrant community that is Dust).
If you can, give Dust another chance. The shell of this game might not seem very edible, but the gooey center is amazingly tasty.
Good luck,
Osiris. This we will see on the 6th. Personally I don't even care about the social or political aspects of the game at this time. I just want them to fix it so that there is full menu functionality. Customizable controls. Hit detection that doesn't give a female scout a near invincibility. Consistency in the actual program...
Lot's needs changed, and they better get on it because if they don't this game will die extremely fast. Like GR:FS fast.
