Whom ever Labeled this game as an MMO needs to actually play an MMO! It's just a very poor FPS! Frustratingly bad! Spend hours buying equipment for your character to have them taken away in the blink of an eye as you coninuously keep respawning in the middle of enemies without firing one singlr round of your new weapon! Fantastic waste of time, no wonder it's free!!!

It's not finished prerelease development yet but they do already have massive numbers of players and is online, so that covers all three letters of MMO. |

Yeah, so does Call Of Duty. That also as a lot of people playing it. Dust has small maps with an average amount of people playing. The MMOs that I've played (DEFIANCE, WoW etc have thousands of people in the same area/world. This game does not! The only difference between Dust and CoD (which is classed as an online FPS) is CoD is good! |

1. The game is a work in progress.
2. The next build (coming May 6) will introduce more MMO-like features.

I'll stick with defiance for now. Just thought Dust would be more open. Couldn't afford Defiance at the time and this game was advertised as an MMO and I was just a bit gutted when it wasn't what I expected. Defiance is awesome though, glad I bought it, it is everything I expected... a true MMO! Might give Dust another try in six months, hopefully it will have improved VASTLY! Can't see anyone in their right mind spending any hard earned real money at the store just yet though!

How about you try complaining it's not a MMO when it's no longer a beta and fully released like defiance?
Also, the beauty of a free to play constantly evolving game is that people can get annoyed with it and bugger off for a while but come back at any point without any cost to return and see all the cool new changes. So, yes, i hope you do come back in 6 months to eat your words. |

As far as feedback is concerned...you sir...fail. As far as constructive criticism goes...you sir...again...fail. This game is by its very nature an MMO. From the way it is designed, the interaction of the player base and its integration with EVE Online. The majority of my gaming history has been spent in online PC MMO's for the past i dunno 15 years. Your words lack any weight. Move along. |

MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online Game
Massive: Dust consists of multiple battles between mercenary ground forces using infantry weapons and equipment to secure planets. Planets are part of a persistent online universe connected to EVE online. There are 67,253 planets in EVE, most of which will be playable eventually. Currently we only fight for Temperate planets, for a total of 7200 different planets. With the addition of Planetary conquest, a large chunk of those planets will be able to be captured, controlled, and fought for by players. Corps will have to move troops around, allocate resources, and defend territory to keep their empire alive. This system will be expanded further as the beta progresses.
Dust514 is a MASSIVE game
Multiplayer: At any given moment there are tens of thousands of pilots in the skies in EVE, meaning all the more people on standby to nuke you from orbit. The numbers for Dust are unconfirmed, but estimates place the number of characters in the hundreds of thousands. EVE and Dust work well in tandem and although the connection is infantile right now, they do help and support one another if you participate in Corp Battles and Faction Warfare. The EVE/Dust Universe has thousands upon thousands of players doing battle and fighting for dominance in the universe all the time.
Dust514 is a MULTIPLAYER game
Online: Duh.
Dust514 is an ONLINE game.
....So anyone who says Dust isn't an MMO is a moron. Just because you're in your merc quarters between battles doesn't mean the fighting in the universe has stopped. The fight is ongoing and endless, players and corporations vying for dominance in a harsh world. Dust514 is the posterchild for an alternative style of MMO and all the QQers would do well to realize that. |

Mad bro?
Also I pretty much just explain why it is an MMO, if you would like to calmly explain how I am wrong I would love to see your rebuttal. But right now you're just screaming and it's making you look foolish. |

Simply because all the MMOs I've ever played have more than 20 people running around shooting each other on a relatively small map. Not exactly diverse, either. It's like they've just got the PVP element of an MMO. MMOs have a hundred times more people playing on one large map. Not sure how this game is going to progress in the future, but for now, to me and other people I know that are hard core MMO-rs, this doesn't qualify. |

But as I said, you have to see the entire universe as a map, not just the little segment of ground you're running on. Is it like World of Warcraft? No, but it still qualifies as an MMO because of how it ties in with EVE. I believe the official title of the game is actually "EVE Online: Dust 514"
Dust is just a part of EVE, and while in beta and not full fleshed out yet, it is undeniable that because it IS part of EVE. The fact that EVE is a single server (Which Dust is part of) actually makes it in a way, MORE of an MMO that say WoW or other more traditional MMOs.

Hi there new comer. Let me show you our rules:
1. Adapt or Die. This cannot be stressed enough. Learn it. Live it. Love it.
2. Do not under any circumstance use what you cannot afford to lose. If you do it anyways, you are taking a big risk and CCP will just point and laugh at you with the rest of the community. Not every game you play needs a proto suit.
3. If it's too good to be true, it's probably a scam. Scams have been a common occurrence since Eve Online began and there is no doubt Dust can see this happening already. If you fall for a scam, it's not CCP's fault nor that of the community. You were just too stupid to do your research before falling for it. Again, you will be laughed at. Oh, and scams are allowed in the game.
4. Do not underestimate the organizational capacity of the inhabitants of New Eden (in both Eve and Dust). You will be surprised and amazed at what this community can do already. Yeah, we love New Eden that much. We even have the capacity to burn our own economy if we want. The last time anyone did that, CCP just stood by and ate popcorn while the carebears cried for help. Cry me a river, Justin Timberlake. Cry me a river.
5. Do not trust anyone but yourself. It's not a matter of if you'll get back stabbed. It's only a matter of when. When you do get back stabbed, pray that you are ready by then.
6. Skill Points mean nothing if the user doesn't know what he's doing.
If you do not like these rules, please leave our game because we don't want you here. Thank you for your co-operation. |

Dust 514 is specifically a "MMO/FPS Hybrid". (as defined by CCP itself).
There are traits that many MMOs share that Dust does not yet have; Specifically, PVE content, and lots of non-combat sets to explore and handle out-of-battle errands on.
MMO traits are currently on the back burner. FPS traits are the primary focus for now.
Right now, development is focused on the PvP FPS balances and mechanics, and rightly so. Because in the long term, making sure THAT is properly balanced is what will ensure Dust's survival. You need not look any further than the Feedback/Requests section to recognize that many things related to this need more tweaking. Once the PvP and FPS aspects have been ironed out, we can move on to installing the PVE MMO elements that you so crave.
I highly recommend that you DO NOT abandon the game for six months, as EVERYONE'S input on the development of Dust is important to the process. The more input and support Dust gets, the faster development will move along.
It's important to recognize, that as you play Dust 514 in its current state; you are a TESTER first, and a PLAYER second. You are a beta tester. If you focus on just being a player, you will quickly recognize you are playing an incomplete game. Try to be objective on your view as a whole.
(Been playing online games for 14 years... boy do i miss the days when people understood what a Beta was... Imagine what they would say if they were Alpha testers!) |

Also downloaded eve online, still on the tutorial but WOW! AMAZING!

An 'mmo' is a 'massive multiplayer online' game right? So that makes dust an 'mmo' (although not with thousands of people on one map at any one time) but its still an 'mmo'. All those corps, each with hundreds of players, connection to EVE, interaction with EVE players.......it's an 'mmo'.
Also take into account that the full scale of dust is not released yet, we ARE still in beta (like it or not).
