I was playing skirmish on Saturday. Around with my shotgun logi when my squad enter a firefight with an enemy squad who order dropship. During the little skirmish I noticed no one had gotten into it. So i kinda mossied over to it hack it and precede it to learn how to fly a dropship with it and at the expense of another . till a got bored and preceded to add insult to injury by kamikazeing it into a red tank >. It was a shield DS so I'm assuming it was expensive |

The question here is:
Did you kill the tank?

And no, not mine, it's been a long time now since I've let someone jack my ship |

I had a corp match yesterday with no enemy showing up (free ISK!), so someone called in a dropship. They hovered it close to a building, and three or four of us jumped on top. They seem to have infinite friction, as we didn't move around even at a sever tilt. This would be interesting/terrifying as a mobile platform for heavies with forgeguns or mass drivers. |

I got to try that. Flying laser anybody? |

DarkPrometheus wrote:It was a shield DS so I'm assuming it was expensive Really depends on what type of DS. A viper costs like 159K (I have a personal policy that I do not ride in or fly vipers, so I don't remember), but can rise steeply as you throw more mods on it. A Myron can cost at minimum like 228K, and that would literally have zero modules on it and two militia missile turrets. The most expensive Myron I ever flew was around 726K (3x Azeotropic Shield Extender, 1x Clarity Ward Shield Booster, 2x Local Power Diagnostic Unit, 2x Scattered Ion Blaster), but I've changed and improved my fitting recently so these days my dropship is around 650K. I can't actually speak to Eryxs as I've never ran one, but arguably they could approach a million. So I hear, they aren't worth it as they have reduced CPU/PG at like double the cost, but I'm considering skilling into them as I've got 65 of them from salvage. I've got 75 prometheuses too :( We need to be able to sell things. |

Assuming they work like LR's, we have a weapon that A) Can't be used at short range; B) Requires a good line of sight; and C) Easily identifies where the fire is coming from. All of this is mounted on a ship that A) Can't engage at short range; B) Has no problem with enemies hiding behind cover; and C) Nobody misses the flying brick in the sky anyway. Sounds like a match made in heaven. |

The reticle of the laser goes totally off and messes the aim of a laser rifle user massively when they're on top of a dropship. I've tried simply hovering and still as I can, but my surfer still reported severe aiming problems. I haven't experimented with forge gunners in fear that they'll accidentally fire at my ship and destabilise me. |

Dropship surfing! Fun as hell... a month or so ago, we had a no-show corp match, and a couple of our DS pilots called theirs, and we made a game of trying to drop from one DS to the other midair.
I had problems staying on when he was banking, though; you must have hit some geometry on the top where you didn't slide off.
During one session, I spawned my swarm launcher fit, and was able to get lo locks on turrets behind the redline. When I ran out of swarms, I tried throwing down a hive... big mistake. It killed the ship for some reason.
Live and learn. |

We also noticed it being near impossible to aim down sights, and I didn't test hipfire. I was able to deploy a drop uplink on top of the dropship (a Grimsnes) without any negatives. |
