In real life you would see someone standing directly to your 2 oclock (north east)
but in dust you will forever tunnel vision
this is really unrealistic and gives no sense of depth whatsoever |

I never felt this problem of FOV. Plus you got to remember that our mercs look through cameras, since we can not look directly through our masks. So maybe that is why... Meh :/ |

Ever tried playing a first-person shooter with FOV set to 180? That means you can see someone directly beside you, which I'm doing to my girlfriend right now while watching TV. Realistically, you can see like that, but it looks completely ridiculous on a TV or computer screen.
Most console FPS games run FOV 60, old PC games used to run 90 as standard and let players adjust this, but more recent games have often limited it to 60, sometimes without any option to adjust. I wish more console games defaults to 90 instead, because I'm still - after many years of console gaming - more comfortable with a slightly wider FOV than we usually get to play with. I don't know for sure, but DUST feels like it's on the lower end and a wider setting would be nice.
Personally, I'd prefer a default of 90 or 100 and the option to reduce your FOV if you choose - there should be a limit that isn't too far beyond the default though, otherwise it becomes exploitable. |

Yeah I would prefer 90 much more over 60...

in 60 while it is fine to play, there is no depth to anything and you don't feel you are inside the game
with 90 you can feel the presence much better, you are more immersed, you are more aware of objects around you
and you won't walk into fences and wonder what is stopping you walking |

FOV is decreased on consoles so less geometry is in view. This puts a lower demand on the processor as it won't have to draw and render as much graphically. This is essential in order to achieve that silky smooth 26fps. To allow for a wider FOV the graphical complexity of the game will have to be decreased. However personally I do not feel that the graphical detail of Dust 514 is all that complex to start with. This may change come Uprising but considering the current 720p resolution and sub-30fps and tunnel vision I believe that graphical concessions are in place mainly to support the draw-distance. (possibly also a certain amount of AF and AA)
Now what will really be a shame is if the PS4 version of Dust limits the FOV to 60 and frame-rate to 30. |
