I'm hesitant to jump right in on May 6th in so far as spending my new giant pool of SPs on all new skills to use new equipment.
What will be nerfed? What will be amped?
It could be nerve wracking. There could be lots of Q_Q ` ` over misspent SPs on may 7th when the skillers remorse sets in and the viziam is a POS shell of it's former glory.

I plan on treating Dust, post 6May, like a brand new game...because CCP won't tell us what's changing...so everything at this point is unknown.
I will try to resist specializing and spending too many skill points prior to understanding how balance issues and new game systems will effect play.
So, I expect to have several days to a week of pure, unskilled testing and forum rant research while I assess where the new edge lies. |

What ever happened to choosing a role and sticking with it? Why should you have to wait to assess "where the new edge lies"? Is that what everyone aside from me does? Is this why we have everyone running around in Heavies or spamming tanks? I keep getting killed by X, it must mean I must switch to using X.

I've got a few things I want SOME skills trained into, which I'll definitely be skilling up first thing, but beyond the basics, I want to experiment with Militia versions of almost everything that HAS a Militia variant before I commit to anything. |

Im undecided. My main goal is to be a LAA pilot whenever that happens. I doubt that will come with Uprising but they may speak about it during Fanfest. It all depends on the pilot suits and how that plays out.
That being said, Im probably going to wait to see how effective the Assault DS is before specing into that versus HAV. |

I'll probably run militia gear to test out some of the new weapons and such. I know relatively what I am going to do because I enjoy the playstyle I currently have, but if a new weapon really appeals to me, I'm not opposed to trying it out. |

This. I will be playing on an alt for giggles and testing before investing any of the large chunk of SP I have on my main. |

Im an assault troop through and through. i know im gonna get my AR and SMG, but beyond that, i also like to have options. so, after looking into all the new suits (assuming there are any) to see what compliments my play style, ill be moving towards what i feel is the best for me. Im not worried about what the new "edge" is. I wanna see what CCP brings to the table to help me in my chosen role.

im just going to be sensible and put my skill points into the core skills (carefully of course ) as some new core skills are getting added and other probly renamed
once thats done i dont know what to do weapon wise
i have been undecided this build and have been running with AR lvl 3 and thats it i have been waiting since b4 xmas when scrambler rifle was known to be added due to the fact we didnt know we were getting the re-spec i didnt specilize into a weapon and instead have been saving sp
as for the weapon support skills like sharpshooter and reload and capacity there at 5 plus proficency in 1 or 2 of them
since now we know we got the respec i spent all my saved sp
i guess once core skills are done ill up weapon skills slowly testing on the way if theres no malita scrambler rifle to test b4 investing sp ill need to invest some there so like some others ill have a few mill spare sp for a week or 2

worried? just put your points into your passives, better shields/armor,weapon damage/reloads, those kinds of things. you don't have to pick a suit/race/weapon and stick with it to the end of time. this is dust, I have points in every weapon, and 2 suits(soon to be 3) and my passives are good, but not maxed yet(fixing that on may 6th) |

I like your attitude, but so far Dust has a small handful of "right" ways to play and millions of "wrong" ways. Stick with whatever the elite guys are currently favoring, because they are definitely not choosing based on their 'preferred roles'. You can build yourself a tightly knit team of unique and complimentary specialists, but a whole squad of full proto AR guys is going to mow you down just the same. (With maybe a heavy, tank, or shotgun scout thrown in there for some semblance of variety.)
Personally, I screwed myself over by focusing on SMGs instead of ARs. I've almost fully upgraded them, and still get kills more reliably with an Exile that has no SP investment outside of three levels of LW sharpshooter. Plus, the Swarm Launcher I've been training in tandem with sidearms, is easily outclassed by the high level AV grenades that lots of AR focused mercs carry around.
Hopefully this will change after May 6th. Lots of elite corp QQ threads around then would be a good sign. |

I appreciate that you like my attitude though I disagree with your assertion that there is a right way and wrong way to play Dust. I have noticed that most of my deaths are from: 1) being shot in the back; 2) mowed down by a HMG or 3) getting sniped by someone 100's of meters away. It matters little what weapon you are holding (so long as it isn't a Swarm Launcher), the important thing is getting the drop on your adversary. Having everyone run around in the same thing reduces the game to cookie cutter fits, which are absolutely 0 fun to me. I've found that experimenting with fits is a lot of fun DIAF or not.
I feel the same way about Eve, I'd rather run around in kitchen sink fleets than in Doctrine fleets. KS Fleets have character and personality to them, D Fleets are just "do as I say or get booted and reset" (at least that is my experience with them). I understand that cookie cutter D Fleets are easier to assemble (from a manufacturing/purchasing POV) and while that does have its merits, it just drains the fun from it.
I've used my fair share of SMGs and I find that so long as I am flanking them and aiming high-chest, they go down fairly easily. Aside from that, I try to concentrate fire with squadmates too (never hurts).
I have a special golden goblet that I will break out if the 6th does bring those tears (here's hoping). |

Core skills of course. I believe most people are going to be more hesitant about the specific drop suit they are going to use. Like, are you going to be a side-arm using fast shield minmatar assault? Are you going to be a hardened, potent amarr battle medic with the new amarr logi suits? Or maybe the quick, nimble, but squishy caldari logi, able to use a variety of equipment.

The alt idea is great. I never made an alt.. shucks!
I see lots of good advice on here, of TL;DR note-
1- Assess your pool of points compared to the skills based on what role you are interested in. 2- Plan to put points into the basic skills first. 3- Then skill up a defensive tank (shield/armor) 4- Finally, skill up a weapon of choice with whatever is left over.
If you have more SPs after that, it comes down to skilling a secondary, third, etc. role.
I think ^ is a good way to look at the respec. Thanks guys!
One thing, I wasn't trying to find where the new edge lie. It's more of a cautionary aspect to the way CCP implements change (see afterburners or missiles or scout speed etc). Also, it wasn't a concern about a role necessarily. I like playing a scout and will most definitely stick with that regardless. It's more of a matter of the specifics of the roles.. such as equipment and weapons involved that may change so significantly you'll find what was worth millions of SPs in this build is not even close to worth it in the next. I doubt there will be any respecs anytime soon, so you want to definitely make sure all the time spent is worthwhile in the way you assign stuff. And for a lot of us, it is a chance to correct mistakes. And heck, I even wasted a lot of SPS in the last three weeks checking out advanced versions of pretty much every weapon... probably only to find stuff has changed.
I think these forums will be alive with praise initially, and then the howling will begin as remorse sets in for some. |
