This is just an observation from what I've seen in comparing entering solo games vs. entering matches as a squad. It's a byproduct of new players either not knowing the importance of squads (doesn't come up in tutorials), not thinking they're necessary, or them just not knowing anyone.
Much has been said about pubstomping, but generally any well-coordinated group of players (squads especially) will crush less organized new players. This can result in "red-lined" games within minutes of play with the winning team idly gunning down starter fits as they fall from the MCC or blasting into the ground spawns in various ways. It's not unusual for players to leave the game in frustration if they're on the receiving end here. It's less likely for entire squads to do so (and the scenario is less likely to come to pass in there). In any case, this opens slots, and the game likes to have full teams I suppose.
When you try to join a match, the system presumably tries to locate one that has an open slot. If you're in a squad, the slot needs to be 4-person-sized (for full anyway), and solo requires just the one slot.
This means that solo operators (which new players often are) will have an increased chance to get dropped into already losing games (as opposed to already winning games, the winners won't likely choose to drop).
This doesn't just impact new players of course. Joining games solo puts you at an increased chance to load straight into a victory/defeat sign, or spend a lot of time staring at a loading screen only to be returned to your quarters with a defeat message without actually playing. I'm not sure if that's caused by the same thing, but it seems likely.
The difference is older players may find this obnoxious or a waste of time, but will likely be aiming to play with squads mostly anyway. New players will have less time invested and be more likely to quit if a few hours invested result in a large percentage of losing matches joined or auto-defeats after loading screens.
Basically, new players both get a harsh experience in terms of general combat, but a quirk of the matchmaking system and filling slots means solo operators (as new players tend to be) will be more likely to get dropped into matches with odds against them.
