All skilled FPS games have strafe jumping.
It makes the game require so much more skill and will reward those who has skillz.
COD has it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zYtpLXj_6o Quake Live has it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-H2bKcKUMs Half Life has it Many FPS has it
CCP if you want Dust to become an e-sport
You will need Strafe Jumping |

Remember, "all skilled FPS games [used to] have bunny hopping" too.
We're trying to get away from cheesy and cheap maneuvers (whether they required skill or not).
Strafe jumping is still possible in this game somewhat, but it only stands out with the scout-shotgun users. |

Yeah, moving away from all these gimmiky maneuvers is a good thing in my opinion. I don't like people comparing this game to every other FPS because this game is designed so differently. With consequences in a completely different game. You can't compare EvE to other MMO's very well either because of the way it is so different and that is what I love about CCP personally. |

Honestly, with everything that's going to be on the line after May 6, I do NOT want silly things like bhopping and strafe jumping to make as much of a difference in this game, as some people seem to want them to make. |

Dust doesn't even have strafe jumping it is an exploit allowed by a combination of the broken kinetic catalyser modules increasing how quickly you do everything and the horribly unbalanced input types |

in a neo scout vk.0 with 3 complex kincats I do some pretty ill stuff. I keep a sidearm in hand as you run faster than carrying a LW as well.
I get lots of wows and even a mail asking how i sprinted so crazy. Jump strafing is just a matter of turning exactly the way you want to be facing just as you leap while at a sprint. For bonus points, time it off a cliff or high structure. To me, being the fastest is the best part of this game
I am really looking forward to the minmatar scout suit- ALL kin cat all day.

Strafe jumping and bunny-hopping are both gimmick moves that came about due to errors or inabilities for code to handle the condition realistically. It was later adopted as one of the favorable methods of playstyle.
IMO, it's stupid. I know as even as I was a bunny hopping rocket launcher player in those games, I was still saying it was stupid, but it worked for those games. Especially the TF-1 Soldier.
So I'm willing to see it in Dust 514 if...
1. No mid air movement control. Once you leave the ground you maintain the same direction, speed, and degree of rotation till you land. To those who don't understand degree of rotation, it means that you will continue to rotate the same speed and direction as you were when you left the ground.
2. Maximum hipfire bullet spread durring the jump. You still have a chance of making head shots.
3. No iron sight or scoping during the jump. If you jump while IS or scoped, it kicks you out of that targetting mode.
With those three conditions in, I'd be happy to see bunnyhopping/strafejumping players make names for themselves in Dust 514. Sorry, you will still have to deal with the stamina bars. |

Maybe, maybe not, but the conditions will apply to everyone whether that's their playstyle or not. |

sounds like it abuses the physics engine to get a artificially big jump
Have you ever done a strafe jump in real life or seen in a movie? Does it remotely look good. Strafing horizontal to where you want to jump.

Dude! holy lololol.
You are so in luck, because that is exactly how it exists in this current build.
I've head shotted people in mid air hip firing. Typically straight on over head. Those are the tactics in killing mountain snipers.
The max speed you can do currently is 10.36 m/s in a proto scout vk.0 with mobility 5 + 3 complex kin cats. With this suit I can usually get two null canons at match go, take out a supply depot, change into my cheapie suit and rock on until I die.
Bunny hopping in this game can be the very wrong choice. It's a matter of knowing when it's a go, managing your stamina, and knowing your exits. I like that it's a tactical decision in dust, and not an egregious one at that. |

Sort of. It's still missing the part where you maintain the degree of rotation and the maximum hip fire bullet spread during jump. After all, you can still fully control your view rotation and view elevation, while you jump, rather than be limited to a 100 to 110 degree cone, relative to the forward axis of the XYZ vector of the model, during the jump. |

I've suggested it a while ago, but it's been ignored- if you try jumping sideways, it should turn out as a roll. |
