Just out of curiosity and references for the playerbase, would it be possible to put out charts and stats based on how many players we have, how many invested SP into each suit class, weapon class, vehicle, etc... etc... I could see that data settling a lot of arguments about what players consider OP, UP, or serve as a wake up call for players that don't take AV seriously. |

I doubt that would happen publicly but this would be very interesting. |

People already take it seriously. Most people take anything OP seriously. |

Depends on how people define OP, I tend to be very specific when throwing a dangerous word around like that. For me, it's something that is very effective, almost to the point of game breaking without an effective counter. Also, it has to be something that can be exploited by just about anyone with very little required skill and very widely used. Aside from the bugged heat build up and base damage issues of the Viziam laser, I really don't see anything in this current build as truly OP.
Example: Heavies were OP in earlier builds when they had over 1000 base armor, but that was because their intended use was to go toe-to-toe with vehicles. Instead of outright nerfing the class to laughably harmless levels they are now, the developers should have formed an effective counter to the suit class like treating them like vehicles and targetedable by AV but with damage scaled for the sake of balance. This could have been an effective two-fold approach because it would keep the heavy class in check while adding extra incentive to specialize into a weapon class that has been grossly neglected until recently: AV.
Instead, we have heavies at the state they are now and because AV went ignored so long, HAV was nerfed because there was no established balance despite there being an effective counter that existed since day one. But, hindsight is always 20/20 in these cases as there was no way to predict that there would be players that would specialize into HAV full-time and AV being so ignored. Even though we can't change the past, we can still learn from it and that's why I proposed the idea of seeing these general statistics. I'm not asking for X player has X amount of SP into this, this and this, but a broader sense of statistical data on the playerbase as a whole that can be made public to give an idea on what to expect (and prepare for) in the upcoming build.

Some of this sort of information has already been released during the equipment DevBlog and I agree it would be valuable information. It's understandable that CCP would keep a certain level/degree of this information to themselves but considering it's value to beta testers who are focused on testing I certainly hope they will take the time to release as much as they are able for use.

ps ~ perhaps this is an idea that should be raised with the new CPM. |
