I have heard different things about the next build. I would love it if a corp battle system similar to the current is in the next build. There are many contracts posted and battles that do not take place, so perhaps 100mil ISK or more must be wagered. With 16v16 or 12v12 coming out soon, that value may need to be higher.
I wonder if 50+mil corp contracts have lots of AUR and merc pack gear lost? I understand that overall more AUR gear is lost during pub matches. This might be hard to calculate, as 8v8 matches have fewer players than pub games. 16v16 doubles the number of players in an 8v8 battle, and this has the potential to double the amount of gear lost during one game. If this is true, I would like an option to continue high value corp contracts at the start of the next build.
I realize that the current faction warfare system will be changed, but the expensive corp battles have little or nothing to do with faction warfare. This Sunday, two hundred million ISK will be put up by PFBHz, and another two hundred million ISK will be wagered by Hellstorm. Battles like this have nothing to do with Gallente and Caldari, or Amarr and Minimatar. It is just PFBHz and Hellstorm.
To make this contract not profitable, one hundred proto HAVs need to be lost, or one thousand proto dropsuits. This is not even remotely possible during an 8v8 corp battle (or 16v16 for that matter) but it is possible in a 20k v 20k game. Sure, this is a bit extreme, but the idea is simple. More players = more gear at risk = more gear that is lost. This contract can will make one corp earn almost two hundred million ISK, and the other corp will lose two hundred million ISK. With that much money, neither corp cares about the ISK value of gear lost if it can help one corp win. This is not true for every corp battle that takes place. Look at PFBHz vs Zion or PFBHz vs Unreal. Almost no one from PFBHz used officer gear, and if they did it was because it was not as valuable as other officer gear that was available (ie Krins instead of a Baloc.) What do you think both sides will be using during this 200mil ISK contract? ;)
It is true that only a small percentage of the 200mil ISK will be lost, as most of it trades hands, but hopefully considerably more ISK and gear will be lost in this game, especially if it is 16v16 than would be lost in a random pub game.
I post this because I cannot see how CCP could make a Planetary Conquest system where corps feel free to lose 50mil ISK of gear, and still make a profit from the battle. Perhaps CCP can, which would be great, and that is what I want. I have heard that the current corp battle system will be removed, and a similar system will be added at a future date.
My suggestion is that CCP looks at this on a per-player basis. What is the value one player lost during this corp battle, and how much does that same player lose in pub games? Since these contracts are rare, I would compare the value of gear lost from this one game to the average value of gear lost by the same player in one pub game. If I am correct, the player will lose more expensive gear in this one game than he does on average from his pub games. I bet that many players from PFBHz need to do multiple pub games to lose the same value of gear from this one corp battle.
If a player does need to do multiple pub matches to lose the same ISK value of gear during this one match, it eventually translates into a lighter server load required for a player to lose a certain amount of gear. A player might lose ten times as much gear from this one corp battle than he loses during one pub game, so this system requires one tenth of what is needed per pub match.
Of course, the server load will not actually be one tenth of the pub games because those are spread out over a long period of time. However, most of the people in my corp would be doing pub matches during the same time if there was no corp battle. So it definitely is less server required to lose a certain amount of gear. More gear lost means more money for CCP, and if the amount of gear lost can be increased while the number of games is decreased, CCP will get more money while spending less. |
