Doesn't have to be. It's a game, and you're treating it like a job. Doing the least amount for meager rewards. The sp you gain doesn't compare to the actual skill building in game. And why anyone would go AFK is over my head. You said you get the same SP, there are free fits you can use, and my junk fit still gets kills when I use my head. If playing doesn't appeal to you I think your PS3 was a bad investment. Believe me, as far as SP goes, you will never be satisfied

WP and time spent in match. Sure you may have gotten 17 - 3 which should have netted you about 850 more SP, but if the match ended sooner then you would have gotten the same. A good way to add to total SP gained is to run scout suit and capture as much as you can at the start of a match. Code breakears help with this a lot. But yeah, 17 - 3 is good, but its really not that great. What should have changed though, is you should have gotten a considerable amount more of isk at the end of the match, as your payout is decided based on how many kills were had in the match, the gear they had on them, and how many of those kills you got. Some skirmish modes ive gotten about 14,000 SP with 500,000 isk as my reward, others I get 9000 sp with about 240,000 as my reward. It all has to do with the variables man!
