I'm skilling up an alt to be a heavy and I kinda like the forge gun, but truthfully I have no idea how to use it (effectively).
I see the 3 forge gun types and their attributes:
Standard - 3.5 sec charge - can move slowly while it's charged Assault - 2.5 sec charge - shoots when it's charged Breach - 6 sec charge - immobile during/at charge (low blast radius)
Standard looks like it's to charge, peep behind a corner to shoot at tanks Assault looks like it's to run and gun people and vehicles Breach ...I dunno, overwatch? I can't imagine standing still for 4 sec (at FG lvl5) vs a HAV you will stay alive
Questions: 1. Are they used much against infantry? If so, is it only for sniping? 2. Am I right about the uses of the types of FGs? 3.Are heavies just supposed to be HMG-bots that suck up bullets with a pocket-logi? Is the FG a fit my HMG-bot just jumps into to get rid of vehicles? 4. Is the idea of a shield-tank (for mobility) FG as an anti-HMG-Heavy a clever idea or am I just trying to fit my silly fit into a non-existent role?
I am only at lvl III or so with the FG, I assume it's kinda a joke till lvl V right?

1. constantly, close-medium-long range depending on accuracy. 2. basically. 3. nothing is supposed to be just one thing in new eden. 4. Try it, you may just find that it works for you.
and no, forge guns are fairly effective at all levels(I'm at 2 and I can still pop a LAV, and force tanks to run, and blow up gun installations in under a clip) |

Standard is just standard. It's not really just to peep around corners to shoot at tanks, unless you're just doing it to annoy them. Assault forge guns are the dangerous ones. They have the highest DPS. They are also the hardest to use, but they are all pretty easy once you get the travel time down. They shoot in a straight line >.< |

I guess charge time of the assault, but as you skill up that reduces. I meant how the shot travels. It is faster than a HAV's railgun, but it still takes a little bit of time to reach your target. Once you figure out how much you need to lead your targets by, it's not too bad. |

Ok, i am confused now. I see how the assault have higher DPS than breach or standard. But how are they hardest to use? They don't immobilize you, and the charge-time is lower than standard

because they don't hold a charge, so, lining up a shot on a mobile target can be more difficult. they're more dangerous to tanks and such though due to the sheer volume of fire they can lay down as opposed to other models |

What say ye forge gunners? 1. sniping is primal for infantry, not the most effective use but possible, more so on other heavies 2. no you just list what they do, not what they are best at. standard-sniping and forcing the tank to go a hiding assault-ambush that tank and hit hard and fast, best from behind while possible for infantry its much harder breach- the ouch effect, works best on installations. the idea of a OHK forge gun 3. no and no, this is just the tread of players uses. 4.shield vs armor heavies in terms of speed is not something I have the best knowledge on but FG is yes both AV and anti-heavy effective. the reason for shield over armor is speed and recharge rates, the reasons for armor over shield is HP and resistant to flux nades/LR. |
