There has been an awful lot of fuss about a potential merc pack refund lately and while I don't want to start another thread of endless arguments about the legalities/policies/responsibilities, I did just want to point something quite important out that many seem to have missed:
A refund (or reimbursement) for an item means that the refunded item must be returned to the seller in exchange for the original monies or equivalent.
That's pretty simple.
For those who don't quite get that, take this analogy: I buy a TV and later go back to the shop to get a refund; in order to get the refund, I have to give back the TV. I can not get a refund and keep the TV. If the shop will only exchange the TV for another TV, I only get the other TV, I do not get to keep the old TV and get a new one too. |

The language actually states "credited in full". It never says anything about a refund. |

Relevant comment.
The correct term that should be used here is "credit" though - not "refund".
The old (and Gamestop) Merc Packs are to be "credited back in full" on commercial release. Not refunded.
As a credit, we get back any content from the Merc Pack which was lost - regardless of the reason for the loss - or an "item of similar value" as determined by CCP.
EDIT: And as usual, have a source...

Okay, cheers for clearing up the exact wording for me.
As you say though, still a relevant comment. Especially since CCP have no limiting terms as to what they can do in conjunction to the crediting back. Furthermore, instead of getting aurum or boosters or anything else back, CCP could just give some special items that match the aurum value of the merc pack contents (as a random silly non-exact example - this could be 1,000 neo adv suits). |

Uprising is not commercial release.
All questions about Aurum refunds will be answered later today in a dev blog. |

The only reason this is a perpetual open beta is because it's a sticky turd CCP doesn't really have many options left to buff.
Millstones like an EoL platform and an essentially bad game are causing a fair degree of foot dragging. The fact they can't even announce a position on this T&C issue after all this time just shows something is seriously wrong behind the scenes. They are just in absolute dread of bad press as a game you need to P2W doesn't need controversy about dodgy CCP sales practices.
Most of the hype about this game CCP has put out about this game is "the future". They will pretty much do anything to protect that PR message. If that means burning the people least likely to make them the most revenue, they probably will.
Open beta gives it a veneer of protection from all these things in more mainstream gaming media as well as the inevitable harsh reviews and sites like meta critic flicking the "Released" switch and letting people go wild.

Was looking for an update to this topic...
Considering the word "value" was used... I think the correct name for this thread should be:
"Define Value"
Because that's what I'M concerned about.
I'm rather bugged that I purchased BPOs (all of them infact), at what I would consider a bargain price (those who were here long enough can remember MLT BPOs being 30 AUR each) at the time. BPO suits were a bit more costly, but they weren't MLT crap; so you expected to pay some weight for it.
Thankfully, when we first came to Tranquility, those old prices came with us for just a few days, and I repurchased all the BPOs. Over time, I saw the prices for them jump exponentially. I was grateful that I purchased them all early on. But then I see that our BPOs are destined to be taken again? Then what? CCP expects us to purchase these BPOs (the MLT ones in particular) at the current prices?
I understand that I will receive the amount of aurum that I paid for, and the aurum is CCP's currency to do with as they see fit... but it's obvious that they are short-changing us on VALUE.
I purchased aurum because of the *value* it once carried.
So when they say they will return to your character the "VALUE" lost... I need to know how that will be defined since they have slashed the value of aurum itself by jacking up prices across the market.
I'm at the point of requesting an opt-out for the aurum refund, because i DO NOT trust CCP to stand by their word of "value". What parameters are there for us to define value to be credited back to us?
If we can't define "value" in this case, and we cannot get an opt-out for the aurum refund, then I will NEVER purchase aurum again. UVT and Boosters be damned. I won't support a P2W system, that deliberate short-changes me.
Please. Explain this. Especially someone from CCP in the know about this. |

Wrong. You intentionally slip on your way in returning said TV, and you walk out with both TVs and a $10,000 check for not suing their ass, god I love America. |

Jath brother not sure if this helps but i pulled this from the post on the new skill tree set up.
Note that this re-spec only applies to your current skills, and items that you have in your inventory. The refund value of ISK and AUR items will be based on the market value at the time of the re-spec. |

Well, that helps. That pretty much addresses my entire concern. Very fine.
I'll check it later. |

For those that want them, fine. Let em have it.
Just do it like they did the last time it happened. We call it a Character Wipe.
Remove absolutely everything and give them their full refund. Once they see how much fun it is to start all over again we can swim in the rivers of their QQ. All while replaying through their thirty day boosters. Again.
Glug, glug Kittens. Fun times ahead. |
