I am making a series of fix/tweak/suggestion topics that I feel fall under basic developer common sense. These topics revolve around, you guessed it, common sense in regards to game development... in this case, specifically Dust development. These topics may have been brought up before, but since they are still an issue/concern, there is no harm bringing it up again.
Developer common sense #1: "Smart restocking"
Smart restocking is a very basic principle that would cut down on time spent restocking while in a match, and cuts down on unnecessary overstock of redundant items.
As it is now when you restock a fit, everything gets restocked equally. Even if you have 300 damage mods but only one Gek, nanohive, and grenade, using the current restock option would still restock all the damage mods even though you only needed a few AR's, hives, and nades (your fit is based on the lowest owned gear number).
So right now if you want to restock a fit with unequal mods without wasting ISK/AUR on redundant items, it requires that you do each one separately to make them all 'equal'. This takes time and is incredibly inefficient. Anybody who uses multiple fits based on the occasion, knows that module and weapon stock can get horribly lopsided very quickly. If you want to restock quickly in a match, you are likely wasting ISK/AUR restocking redundant items by using the current "restock all" option.
The solution.
The obvious solution here is, only restock what is needed on any given fit. So if I have 300 damage mods, 1 Gek, 1 hive and 1 nade, the smart restock would only restock the Geks, hives, and nades in equal proportions. And would only restock the damage mods if they were lower than the stock of anything else.
Also in case some players like the current feature of restocking everything equally regardless of how many are owned, there could be a "restock all" option as well.
Two main options:
- Restock only what is needed.
- Restock All.

Meh.
If you have two fits, each using an Assault Dropsuit, two Damage Modifiers and a Nanohive. One has an Assault Rifle and a Scrambler Pistol. The other has a Scrambler Rifle and a Submachine Gun. You want five of each. So, naturally you restock five for each. Later, on the battlefield, you use up all five of the Assault Riflemen dropsuits. What do? Use your Scrambler Riflemen dropsuit. But, OH NOES. You accidentally pressed "Restock Needed" because that's what you thought you needed. Now, you'll have to restock in the middle of a match. How embarassing! |

The only fix I can think of is to "assemble" fits so the fitting screen effectively becomes a secondary inventory--when you "assemble" a fit, items are taken out of your inventory or bought from the market to create the number of fits you specify. You could subsequently "disassemble" a fit into its constituents and return them to your inventory. This is the only way I can think that makes sense, and it requires additional programming. However, it's not totally unlike EVE (with the ship hangar, and "repackaging" ships so you can sell them), so I'm hopeful this will get rolled out to us someday. |
