We are currently seeing a lot of red-line matches, where the red-lined team is quitting and new randoms are coming into an already-lost battle. I think I speak for most players when I say that these situations aren't especially fun.
To combat this in instant/public matches (and only there!), I propose The CatchUp feature.
Similar to racing-games, where being behind will give you a boost and/or being in front will give you reduction, I suggest that when 1 team is significantly ahead of the other in either MCC damage or clone-count, the game start providing minor boosts to the loosing side and minor reductions to the winning side.
Example boosts/reductions:
- +/- 1-5% damage
- +/- 1-5% strafe speed
- -/+ 1-5% heat build-up
- +/- 1-5% reload speed
- +/- 1-5% radar profile
These do not change things drastically, unless the battle is truly one-sided and significant boosts/reductions are applied, and would allow the loosing side to more easily make a come-back.
Might be relevant to apply the bonuses on a per-squad level, so weaker squads are given more boosts (and stronger squads given larger reductions), but this would depend on the actual algorithms being implemented.
Note: As mentioned, this should really only apply to instant/public matches, where there is little at risk other than honour and some ISK. When fighting FW or PC, the game shouldn't try to balance things out. |

This isn't a good idea....it is imperative that we stray from giving people cheesy bonuses and weapons. I can only imagine everyone's excuse for losing a close match.
You want to know why people get redlined?..... It's because they don't try. How many matches have you seen where within the first few secs, 4 out of the 5 letters are capped without asingle shot fied or an enemy spotted.
You want to help minmize redline matches?......petition for sniper rifles to be removed. Or a limit of 1 sniper on the field or something :) |

Or just a red-line mercy rule. One team completely controls the field, and holds it for a little while? Boom, match ends. No need to spend 15 minutes waiting for the MCC to die. |

Special weapons and gear in general would be bad, and I'd agree about cheesy if I said "Give the loosers extra orbital bombardments". Don't actually consider a small advantage cheesy by the very fact that it is too small to cause the game to flip 100%. As the mechanism should be automatically scaling, benefits also dissapear slowly as the loosing side catches up.

Or a limit of 1 sniper on the field or something :) I've heard of (and noticed) people giving up early, but it is far from the main reason I see. More often, it is that there are 2-4 players on the other team, that are dominating, currently often in protogear, but mainly due to player skill and coordination on just 1 side. Notice matches where 3 guys on the winning team go 20+ to 1, and the rest aren't actually doing very well.
Sniper-rifles ain't the problem - they serve a purpose, and it would be very unfortunate to remove them. Matchmaking (which the original suggestion will work as an short-term feedback mechanism to) is a very large part of the problem. Matchmaking will never be perfect, and lower-order feedback mechanisms are quite valid. Poor squad mechanics is also a problem, particularly now where there are no default squading and ****-poor control and zero information for newbies.
I appreciate that it is a contentious topic, especially when everybody want to behave like Dust514 is the FPS to end all other FPSes, the home of the hardcore and the only FPS with meaning - but instant-battles aren't anything but casual entertainment, and driving players away because all they can get to are instant battles ("Wah, join a corp that arranges battles") where it is one redline party after another, is not healthy or good.
