My base fit is 56k and 20k of it is complex damage mods. If I only lose 1 or 2 suits, I'm fine. That's usually around how many I lose per game anyways so it's not a big deal. I can't imagine losing over a million ISK in a game just by dying. |

Running into squads of high end gear users is both painfully frustrating and kind of cool. A big part of this game is to reward teamwork so the deck becomes even more stacked when they flock together. I'll admit some schadenfreude for intentionally seeking and using mass drivers or forges on such people over the mission objective.
It would be nice if they had a battle finder game matching system that users could limit the meta level of equipment brought in. Like militia and meta one, up to meta 3, everything and anything. Then give more rewards for the people who braved the higher stakes game. |

Nice fit name.
My view on the issue of gear quality: I like how very possible it is to survive and thrive in low tier dropsuits. There are huge benefits to using advanced and prototype dropsuits, but me and my Skinweave logi suit can still end up near the top of most matches.
By contrast, I don't like how it's balanced for vehicles. They are much more gear sensitive than dropsuits. You basically have to field the highest end, most expensive gear to survive in a vehicle. |

Or maybe they just unlocked the ability to use proto/officer gear and want to try it out?
I occasionally field a Boundless or Six Kin, just because they're fun. The one time I tried out a Gastuns Min 7 I Was 18-0 and got sniped, by a Thales.
I agree that those who repeatedly field proto fits must have a screw loose, but I understand the desire to use the best one's SP allows. I look at like betting, when I choose a fit I'm betting on obtaining x number of kills before death, the higher cost fit the more kills I expect before death. |

I just like using my 128k ISK ADV suit. I'm not doing much more damage, but I can survive many more fights than in my STD suit.
Losing a cheap fit doesn't matter to me, but losing some expensive gear does. And that's what I'm here for. I want every match to matter. I want to pay a hefty price when I lose a suit, and I also want the reward when I'm playing smart and don't die.
I had a pub match two days earlier where I was facing some really good guys from SVER TB and most of them were using proto stuff. That was some really intense game! The top player of SVER TB and myself both went 39/7. I lost 896k in this match but I got 714k ISK from loot alone! So losing that 182k ISK really was worth it for me. |

I agree. If you wanna use it, by all means go ahead. My issue with using them is risk vs reward. By using expensive suits, you pretty much eliminate yourself from making ISK in the match, unless you have a beastly game and/or have a Logi and others to help pop you up if you go down.
Also, I've noticed that a lot of Proto users put themselves before the team. If you're using a fitting that costs a couple thousand ISK, you're less likely to push, play the objective, etc. That, IMO, hurts your team more than helps it.
Besides, if you're good enough, you can run free/cheap fits and be just as productive as when you use expensive fits. I'd like to come up with some statistics on the matter, but I haven't used any fits besides my two not-so-expensive fits. I think most solid players will only lose a couple more suits per game, but they'll end up making a kitten ton more ISK and just about the same WP/SP in those games. |

CCP has tried to implement a system that is suppose to balance skill, but it does not. For New players and Weekend warriors a restriction on gear would balance a battle more then trying to based on stats in Pubs. Now FW and PC is a different ball game. |

I think even by putting a restriction on gear, new players would suffer. Having SP put into important skills (FM, Weaponry, Shield Control especially) gives your cheap suit a definite advantage.
The best way I can think of is to have it based on career SP in addition to a price limit on fittings. |

If you watch the minimap and my armor, you'll see that my Logi bailed on me. Even if I wanted to run away, I'm too slow, lol.

If people can field it, nothing should stop them, even though it is quite ridiculous seeing Officer Weapons and Sagaris'/Suryas on the battlefield.
Sometimes I wish we could just have a militia gear week, where everyone is restricted to MLT Gear, but for that to happen we would need MLT variants of all weapons to suit all playstyles. |

the highest gear i'll bring out in a pub match is a type 2 and GEK or specialist shotgun. if i am playing with something better its only because i'm trying a new fit on for size.
then again playing vs some players will make me pull out a better suit

You'd be surprised how many heavies sprint away out of my range, since I can't sprint with my rep tool active.
And I think I just thought of the best analogy. Crackers and cheese. Crackers are perfectly fine by themselves, but cheese just adds more flavor, heavies can run by themselves, but a logi can make him much more potent. |

It really doesn't matter if someone uses proto or not, yes it can be frustrating to see that there is an entire proto squad, but that just makes the match much more interesting (especially if you can free them from some of their proto burden). But the fact is, it comes down to skill, not equipment that wins matches because if this wasn't the case how can militia fit mercs beat proto fit mercs. This is the same complaint of OP weapons, stop complaining, acknowledge you just got wiped all over the floor and pick yourself and make that proto team wish they never brought it out. |
