CCP has said that they are developing in a way that will support the PS4, but they have no plans to move to it as their primary platform until well after the PS4 launches. |

This game is a game of numbers, as in you have to have player count numbers in order for this game to work.
Splitting the player count across PS3 and PS4 would break this game.
Same reason why this game is not on PC nor ever will it ever be on PC. In other words you will have to keep your PS3 if you want to keep playing DUST.

there's no reason why the PS3 build can't be compiled for the PS4. then you would ADD the PS4 players to the PS3 players, not split them.
we'll wait to see what CCP says though, they have not made an official statement about the PS4 yet. * i wonder if Fanfest is a good time to make that kind of statement? |

You can have cross-platform play in the same game. Don't believe me? Look at Final Fantasy XI as well as Final Fantasy XiV, both of which have cross-platform access to the same servers by players of different game platforms.
Other games don't do this because of policies against merging the player base of a given online service with another service's because of the possible advantages/disadvantages that would bring to the players of one of the platforms (as well as the service provider's vested interest in attracting the money to their platform). Sony seems to be the only company that doesn't give much of a f---.
So yeah, it wouldn't be hard for the PS3 and PS4 to have the same game essentially. |

I belive it will work were the game will be available on ps4, but share servers with ps3. This will mean no extra team sizes or things like that for ps4, but the graphics may be better. Since char is stored server side, you should be able to log into same char from either system.
EvE did this, they had eve classic for low spec computer and upgraded eve with better graphics for few years before eve classic was dropped when few used it.
So, PS4 and PS3 will be in same battles with ps4 held back, until nearly all of player base has ps4, then ps3 will be dropped and new features added that require ps4 hardware. This will be several years away at least.
Any pc client will work the same way, it will connect to the same servers as ps3. Same would apply if xbox, steambox, wi versions are ever made. I doubt Microsoft would let it on xbox for this reason, and I doubt CCP would ever make a wii version though. |

To be honest, I didn't expect Dust to be featured on the PS4 as one of its first games. Knowing the buying habits of consumers, most PS owners will just hold onto their old PS3 consoles for a long time even after the PS4 has been released. All of my friends in real life own a console of some sort and all of them generally tend to hold onto their consoles until they break down because getting a new console is not cheap at all. Especially when purchasing a new PS console as the price of those things are enough to scare even folks with stable income. When the PS3 first came out, I didn't buy it until almost a whole year or two after release when the prices started to drop. Even then the prices were still expensive.
Then there is the issue that plagues all consoles no matter who manufactures them. The kinks. Remember the first X360? A lot of early buyers complained of constant red rings and defective power cords. The same thing happened with the PS3 and the Wii when they first came out. This practically forced the vast majority of players adopt a cautionary way of purchasing.
Wait and see.
If someone else buys a brand new console and reports problems, you will be feel relieved that it wasn't you who spent all that money for a defective product. As a result, smart buyers tend to view early buyers as "beta testers" of consoles. |

You are right DUST could be on both PS4 and PS3 and not split the player base but that would be like getting a Lamborghini and putting a 45 MPH governor on it.
BTW they have made a official statement here
Quote:The focus right now is on making the game "super-slick" "PlayStation 3 I think is going to stay even more relevant than in previous cycles,"
"We saw a lot of the announcements around the PlayStation 4 event that there's a lot of interesting new ways to breach content across the platforms,"
"The interplay between all these different PlayStation 3s and 4s... There are so many opportunities there. But the important thing is not to get lost with them.
Hell CCP even said that we might see EVE on the PS4.
Quote:"You can never say never," "There's really no telling what will happen in the second decade here technologically and stuff.
"If Eve Online ends up on a console at some point in the future it will be because it was the right decision for Eve Online and for its community,"
"But I don't think we're done with expanding the Eve universe in terms of devices and genres and other ways to connect to that magic sandbox of a single-shard universe."
So will we see both DUST and EVE on PS4? Sure its physically possible. |

The PS3 has Cell Architecture, the PS4 has PC like-x86 Architecture, vastly different. I doubt it could be just a simple port. And if PS4 has better graphics/framerate that would be unfair to PS3 players. |
